I have just installed avast! and it has been doing a good job. However, it has stopped my weather widget from updating itself. When i tell the widget to get the information it says it can’t connect. I am using the lastest version of konfabulator with its standard weather widget. I have taken a look at the web and network shields but i can’t find a section where it lists programs or processes it is blocking or where i can allow this program to do this.
avast is not a firewall and can’t block access to Internet.
But WebShield is a local proxy that scans your Internet traffic. So, you need to allow it to connect.
Into the firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable)
Which firewall are you using? Which is your operational system?
I am using the windows xp sp2 and just using the xp firewall. I have added avast! to my firewall to allow it full access but it still won’t let any widget access the internet. This must be caused by avast! as its the only change to my system and the website is working.
Did you try to disable WebShield provider and test?
Are you using any other local proxy application (like Proxomitron)?
No i am not using any other proxy and turning off web shield does not help.
How about stopping the whole avast! resident protection temporarily - is it possible to update the program then? If not, it’s got probably nothing to do with avast!..
