avast stops after 1st detection

Hi,
avast! detects a virus in my computer. When I choose the option ‘delete all’, avast deletes the virus but then the window shuts down.
So I need to restart avast from scratch until it finds the next virus…
Is there anything wrong in my configuration of avast, or how can I solve this annoying problem?
thanks for any hint…

If you have a NT based OS, run a boottime scan.

Can you give us more info?
Which was the infected file name and path?
Which is your operational system?
What happens if you send the infected files to Chest instead of deleting them?

thanks, ill try sending it to chest (haven’t done it up to now).
My system is Windows 2000; I don’t remember the name of the virus, but its path was C:Winnt. I experienced the same behavior of avast! with other viruses earlier, though.
I will report on sending to chest asap.

Hi again. I found three error messages in my logfiles. Don’t know whether this may tell you something about why avast! stopped and closed each time?

30.08.2005 13:30:10 Administrator 628 Scan of “C:\PAGEFILE.SYS” area failed with 00000003 error (function avfilesScanReal failed).
30.08.2005 13:30:46 Administrator 1628 Scan of “C:\PAGEFILE.SYS” area failed with 00000003 error (function avfilesScanReal failed).
30.08.2005 13:31:22 Administrator 956 Scan of “C:\PAGEFILE.SYS” area failed with 00000003 error (function avfilesScanReal failed).

No, it is not related. The record only says that avast! was not able to scan the page file - which is absolutely normal, Windows don’t allow access to its page file when running.

What was the full filename that was detected as infected during the scan?

I’m sorry I didn’t look up the logfile right after the scan. but I got rid of all viruses since by HijackThis. Yet I still don’t know why avast! shut of each time it detected an infected file. It did so from the beginning ever since I have been using avast, and with different infections.
Maybe i’ll have to uninstall avast and install it again…?
Thanks for your response.

The filename is displayed in the virus warning dialog - no need to check the logs.

Hi,
I found the virus names in the warnings report:
VBS:Trojano-436 [Trj]
JS:NoCheat-2
VBS:Malware [Gen]
Win32:Dialer-Y [Trj]
Win32:Trojano-1175 [Trj], 1218, 1268, 1568, 2184
Win32:Trojan-gen. {Other}
Win32:Agent-AH [Trj]
Win32:Adan-062 [Adw]

The latest avast! scan resulted in 0 infected files.
I don’t know whether this list is of any use to find out why avast! stopped and closed off each time after its first infection message.

Zimmj, you’ve posted everything except what Igor asked:

the filenames (and paths).

I am sorry, but I don’t know how to get this virus warning dialog information back - those viruses have been eliminated after using HijackThis, and so running avast! there’s no virus warning dialog right now. I might wait for another one…

Thanks anyway
