For some bizarre reason, Avast is stripping the message body from some of my outgoing e-mail. It is specifically targeting one address and has also stripped two others for one message each. The e-mail is going through and being received but the entire message body is removed. The only parts being received are the message headers and the Avast file scanned message. I have tried sending html and text in separate messages, but nothing in the message body gets to this one address.
operating system is Windows 2000 Professional
Avast version is 4.5.523
VPS file is 0447-1 date 11/19/2004
system is Intel Pentium 4 1.80 Ghz 256Mbyte ram
internet connection is DSL
e-mail client is Thunderbird ver0.9
fire wall is Tiny ver 2.0.15
to re-produce bug - send e-mail to the pre-mentioned address
no error messages occur
Is anyone else suffering from this problem
Captain.Bob, this is the first time I’m reading such a problem. As you say, it’s so bizarre that I’ll ask you: Why do you think this is avast! related?
Which is the pre-mentioned address?

Are you sure the vps is 447-1? Latest one is 448-1

Actually yes it is Avast because when the outgoing is sent unchecked, the entire message does go through. It started actually with a version prior to the version I had indicated and is continuing with the current version 4.5.523 and 0448-1 however, it is now preventing three addresses from getting the body of the message.
As to bizarre problems, welcome to my world.

upgrade to .536 and let us see if it solves the problem.

Acording to the upgrade, I am using ver .536 however, About Avast indicates ver 4.5.523 and I have two of three replies that state the message body is being stripped. Additional info; all three addresses are with three different service providers.
How can you be using .536 if avast shows .523?
Did you boot after the update?

I not only downloaded the complete version but also the current update and tried updating from the Avast menu and rebooted and Avast is still showing 4.5.523 in the “About Avast” screen under the item Avast version 4.5 home edition;
Built nov 2004 [4.5.523]
But now we’re up to four addresses that are getting stripped
Is it possible that the heuristic settings could be causing this? I have them currently set to high, I shall try them in medium.
This kind of reminds me of what an intermittent electrical connection in automobile wiring is like when trying to find it.

In fact, build .536 corrects a lot of problems that the .523 does not :-
Can you see?

I am back and my problem seems to be getting worse.
I have updated to version 4.5.549 and now I cannot send messages if the outgoing virus check is disabled. The message I get when the smpt is unchecked to “Scan outbound mail” and the “Insert note into clean message” is
Sending of message failed
the message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server 127.0.0.1 failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else contact your network administrator.
I have tried sending to myself with outgoing being checked and unchecked. I receive when being checked but cannot connect when not being checked.
I am working on finding what server the recipients are using that do not get the message body, so far it may be pop3.
Captain.Bob, with Windows 2000 and avast 4.5, you should have a new mail detection that works automatically.
Please, set up your email account just as avast does not exists. It will detect the pop3/smpt/imap ports and scan your messages.
About the clean notes into the message body, can you try ‘Settings’ on my signature?
UseAlternateRtfSyncing value under [MailScanner] section.
