Avast suddenly became a resource hog?

I don’t know what happened - I’ve tried re-installing and then disabling a bunch of stuff… I really dont know what I am dong there - then I was going to uninstall and switch to AVG but it gave me the option of a “passive mode”?

I’ve ben using Avast without a problem for years and have always recommended Avast but when my computer slows to a crawl and I look at Task Manager I see Avast using all my CPU and Memory - I don’t know what’s going on. Is anyone else getting this bad behavior?

Hi,

Do you have any other Antivirus like applications installed? With passive mode enabled, Avast can not actively protect you. Please see https://support.avast.com/article/Antivirus-Passive-Mode/

Which versions do you have installed (OS and Avast Antivirus)? Perhaps you can submit a Performance recording https://support.avast.com/article/Antivirus-Performance-recording-FAQ/

I have Windows 10 and as far as I know Avast has always run together with Windows anti-virus without a hitch.

I just completely uninstalled Avast again and reinstalled it and it seems to be working OK - I’ll wait and see if it acts up again and then will try your recomendation.

Thanks for the reply and trying to help.

If it reoccurs, you might like to check how much room you have left on your C drive. I had same symptom and found that extremely bloated ETL log files were being created under c/Progdata/AvastSoftware/Avast/Logs. I believe the software developers are “looking at it”. I might have some tips for temporary solutions.
