That’s just common sense. Any small operation wants and needs as much “cross-training” as possible to to give them a reasonable amount of flexibility. That way they can hopefully minimize disruption if someone’s sick or away or – heaven forbid – leaves.

Wandering slightly O/T, but hopefully still acceptably related … my last employment before unexpected early retirement was 20 years with a small but successful plastics manufacturer, 3 guys in the plant and 3 in the office. I was “officially” the accountant-cum-computer expert, but quite often would get out and fill in for the shipper/receiver if he was off sick. And that’s the kind of thing that keeps a small co. going.
