The avast icon in the system tray (Xp sp2) has stopped rotating when eg emails are being downloaded. . Most all the avast providers are running as far as I can tell - well they appear in the avast list as running that it.
Not sure if I have protection or not?
Can someone please advise if there is a problem?
ps I updated the engine and database but still no spinning “A” icon.
There is little information to help, e.g. no email program, no ISP, no if it is web mail or if it uses SSL (secure encrypted email), or if it is to ports other than the ones avast monitors ?
Are the emails actually being scanned, check the Internet Mail provider, Scanned count:, Last scanned, etc. Are there lines in the email headers that show avast has scanned them ?
So updating avast wouldn’t make a blind bit of difference if one or more of the above meant they weren’t being scanned.
Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
