I installed avast 4.8 a few days back. It worked fine, and probably still does. But after a recent Windows update (on Windows 2000 SP4) from Microsoft’s site, the system tray icon no longer appears at start-up. I tried uninstall followed by a fresh install, but things remain unchanged. The SCM shows all 4 avast services (Antivirus/iAVS4 Control Service/Mail Scanner/Web Scanner) as started and the Task Manager shows 5 avast processes (ashMailSv.exe, ashlServ.exe, ashWebSv.exe, aswUpdSv.exe and avast.setup) as running. Is there anything I can do to get the system icon tray back ? It kind of assures that avast is indeed fully active.
Thank you for any help

Mr.Agent
- Check the option in the Appearance tab of settings.
or
- Repair your avast installation through Control Panel.
or
- Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder
or
- Add the path to ashDisp.exe into a value named avast! in the Windows Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

If that does not help, please, uninstall, boot, install again, boot.
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc.?
