Hi people,
I have a not so small issue with my laptop.
On one day it started to take much longer to boot.
Now I installed this software Soluto, which keeps track of all programs on startup (I know that I can see that in the Windows event manager too, but this is more clear) and this is what it showed me: [see attachment]
So I am wondering why avast takes so long to start and thus slows down the boot?
Well no, it ran smooth for some time, with all the programs I had, including avast.
But then, like I said, without real reason(or at least not known for me), the system started to need very long to boot.
For the system:
System Information
Time of this report: 11/24/2012, 17:09:06 Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120830-0333)
Language: German (Regional Setting: German)
System Manufacturer: Acer
System Model: Aspire 5750G
BIOS: InsydeH2O Version V1.12 Processor: Intel(R) Core™ i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 8044MB RAM
I can’t remember which anti-virus software was installed on the fresh system, but I uninstalled it and installed avast.
But I think it was Norton Anti-Virus.
I have the normal Windows-Firewall and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as anti-spyware.
Well your system is well up the the task, so it shouldn’t be one of a lack of resources.
Norton can at times be somewhat resistant to removal, this could cause some conflict, so I would suggest that you run their specific removal tool:
Uninstall possible remnants of previously installed AVs see, http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/, this has a collection of manufactures removal tools, so that should remove any remnants, registry, etc.
MalwareBytes AntiMalware (MBAM) even if it is the Pro version), shouldn’t impact greatly on avast or the boot duration.
You could try an avast repair and see if that restores things to normal functioning:
avast Repair:
Win7 - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Uninstall/Change and select Repair, click next and follow.
You should reboot after the repair.
Asyn’s questions and your answers might give us some other things to consider.
I tried it but it remains the same.
As for the Norton Removal, my laptop booted pretty OK after uninstalling Norton and installing avast, I used CCleaner to remove old registry entries.
But then after some time it just needed longer to boot up.
I thought it was because of hardware-issues first, but now that I saw these detailed boot-times of all programs and the long time of avast, I thought it may be something else.
@ Großer_Stuhl
Personally ccleaner is never going to do as good a job as a removal tool from the company that makes the product, so I would still run that.
Well it seems to have helped, thank you.
Even if it’s not much in overall, it’s a little bit less ;D
But I wonder what problems my laptop has to start so slow :-\
