Avast 4.8 Home edition is taking too long to scan my outgoing email and therefore I get a timed out error from the server. I am using Windows XP Pro and Outlook for email. Everything has been working until just yesterday. I have recently done a thorough scan of all local disks and drives.
How do I correct this?
Where do I find the settings to delete the scan of outgoing email, if this becomes necessary?
Well I use OE6 SP3 and don’t have this problem, there were two security updates for XP SP3 in the last windows patch Tuesday, but I don’t believe they were OE related.
How big are these emails being sent with attachments ?
I very occasionally get a time out from OE normally when I’m receiving a large email (I’m on dial-up), I rarely send emails with large attachments, dial-up again. I have the time-out on OE set to 300 seconds so it very rarely troubles me.
So it isn’t too unusual as avast intercepts the email in the localhost proxy then scans the outgoing email and when complete passes it on. This can take time and OE doesn’t appreciate what is going on just that it hasn’t had a response that it expects. Extending the time-out should help in that regard.
I wouldn’t advise disabling outbound email scanning.
