Avast team please stop your product from promoting Google Chrome.

I really did not liked that advertisement from Avast about Google Chrome. I’m sad I see such things from you. :frowning: Promoting your own products is okay, promoting 3rd party products in wordings which give users the feel as if they’re stupid for not using Chrome which to you seems as the only legal browser that is faster and safer is a very relative topic. If I wanted to use Chrome I would have not uninstalled it 2 days ago in the first place only to receive an advertisement from you to reinstall it. I will be disabling “Participate in data sharing” option and would leave only “Participate in Avast community”. That is my opinion and I do not like seeing such stuff from a company like you. Seeing the advertisement on the login page was already enough for me even before this. Now please post ads about Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Vivaldi and one additional browser per your choice please.

Are you gonna pay for the loss of income if avast stops with promoting Chrome ?

Still I didn’t like that advertisement. ::slight_smile: “Install THE safe, fast browser Chrome”. :o

You nailed it in one eddy pal.
Keyword being “income” .
Is it not you that stated avast is NOT bundled with adcrap and yet here we are again on square one in the very same situation.
When will it sink in i wonder…?

It is getting quite ridiculous that eventually an adblocker will be needed within a product which supposedly is protecting us from this.

Still if we live in denial of this situ then a solution will never be found.

If a solution was found, you wouldn’t have anything to post about.
Nothing wrong with the Chrome browser. If you don’t like it, there are other choices.
I happen to like the SafeZone browser offered by Avast.

Nothing harmful about Google Chrome.

You can opt-out from installing Google Chrome and SafeZone browser, but it’s far more secure than most other browsers on the market.

Kudo’s to Avast for not promoting Yahoo or Ask Jeeves.

The OP’s post is not about installing Chrome or not, but with the promotion of it by avast.

I’ve already said it in another thread.
It is all about the money.
If Chrome was even close as safe as avast (at least) is trying to make people believe, there would be no reason at all for avast to develop the SafeZone browser.
Fact is also that Chrome never was as safe as Google, avast and others claim(ed).
Have a look at the Secunia advisories.

It is plain and simple.
Of you don’t want the ads for Chrome (provided by avast), stay away from avast completely.
Don’t use their software, don’t visit any of the avast sites etc.

Okay now for me I haven’t said anything bad about Chrome, it really is a secure browser as far as browsers can be secure. Whether it is more secure than others is a relative question, everyone has their own view. Maybe I’m just too annoyed from seeing ads about Chrome everywhere. YouTube, Google, the translator, the forum, the site, the blog, and now THE AV ITSELF. I’ll switch to Bing and Deezer at the end. And the wordings, I hate the way they formulated their ads and I even more hate the fact that Avast are comfortable with this (obviously for money). “Install the fast, safe browser Chrome” compared to “Try Google Chrome, a fast & safe alternative browser”. Which one sounds like an order and which one is a proposal. Guess which one Avast selected.

Nope, Google try to tell me what browser to use, I won’t let them also tell me what AV to use. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nope, Google try to tell me what browser to use, I won't let them also tell me what AV to use.

Welcome to the real world where it is (almost?) entirely about the money/ads when it comes to the Internet.

As long as it takes money to pay the bills, don’t ever expect this to change.
I don’t know any one, unless they are super wealthy, who can afford to work for nothing.

Guys, I know it is frustrating when you get an advert, but it is FREE, if they do not get money from somewhere, you will all have to pay.
I don’t mind if it offers something, as long as it is clear it is offering it to you and NOT trying to sneak it onto your computer by having a box pre-ticked.

Agreed. Still, check your webRTC setting in SafeZone browser and be sure it is set to default public, ok? You’ll like it even better if it is set that way.

My dearest bob you seem slightly in the dark with this comment.
Have you heard of the open source community by any chance.?.This is a global community of coders and programmers who give us our excellent open source software and the majority of this is totally unpaid so your comment is a bit ill founded.

Just for the record we use the world wide web NOT the google wide web.Its sad to see such money driven megalomaniacs like google and microsoft dictating web standards which it seems totally contradicts the W3C standards.

This maybe the “real world” you feel comftable with but i would rather stick with the original vision of the web as a open and free platform for everyone and not a stage for google to play its greedy antics.

Regards.

Just curious, if you didn’t have chrome installed, would installing it take away the messages?
Chrome is said to be the fastest browser, in fact. (zdnet What’s the fastest Windows 10 browser)

Just curious

Open-source is great but there are many quality engineers who work for Microsoft/Google. Some of them might like a certain open-source cause and contribute to it if they have time to do so. It’s not the engineers that are the problem, it’s the marketing. They just do their job, but sometimes they really make the users angry.

PS.: Let’s refrain from discussions about the quality and the speed of the browsers. The topic is different. Thank you.

You would be a fool for doing so as thats the party trick right there…bombard the user with ads and irritate the user to the point of installing chrome just to silence the infernal pain in the backside.

We all know what curiousity did for the cat.
Speed seems to be the main selling point of chrome but proper customisation is out of the window and the user has to put up with what google gives them.

Still the choice is yours.

I apologize.
