Avast terminating programs in the sandbox - how to stop?

Before I updated the software, Avast didn’t automatically terminate programs running in the sandbox. Now it does. How do I stop this from happening? I don’t want to “Run normally” as I see no reason for them to modify any settings.

Fair question.
avast! ‘Professional’ and ‘Internet Security’ include an on-demand virtual environment or ‘Sandbox’, so I assume you are using avast! ‘Free’ which does not.
The purpose of ‘Autosandbox’ is to analyze files of indefinite safety. As you have pointed out, at the moment there is a perceived inconsistency in its behaviour which will soon be resolved by removing the “Ask” option from Autosandbox settings so that the only options will be ‘Run Normally’ or ‘Run sandboxed’, which as you say, results in termination of the suspect process.

Let me see if I understand the changes to the sandbox… in Avast 6, it was ask
if you want it to run in autosandbox, if Avast decided there “might” be a problem. In Avast 7, it runs and asks you afterward how you wish to run things in the future. So no more manual controls in the free version, but if I read the posts properly, Avast Pro and AIS include both auto and manual, your choice.

When Avast removes the Ask option from the Sandbox Rules. leaving only “Auto” or “Run Normally” for Sandboxing, will a White List be made available to continue to run files or programs outside of the sandbox? It seems that program developers and Beta testers would really want this.

Jack

Sure, they are not going to remove all control, what you might not be able to decide over without an Ask option is the initial sandboxing and analysis. There will still be exclusions for it.

So are they going to change the behavior of Avast 7 (free) back to Ask (as in Avast 6) as I thought I saw in another post, or let it go on the way it is configured now, which will terminate a program, forcing you to then add that program manually to your exclusions list if you wish to run it.

Am I close to understanding this?

Tks.

The default setting for the AutoSandbox is now as it was previously in avast6, Ask.

So it shouldn’t make the decision autonomously to run suspicious programs in the sandbox. The idea of auto running it in the sandbox is to determine if it is malicious. Then I would guess it would report that fact, one way or another, but there would be zero point in continuing to run the program sandboxed as once it is closed any work, etc. would be lost as it happened in a virtual environment.

New default Ask Mode - If you have chosen to run the file sandboxed it should be basically to confirm if it is malicious or not. Having found out then you are either not going to run it at all (malicious) or you are going to run it normally (not-malicious) and have the autosandbox remember your decision.
