Hi!
I have recently installed avast! Antivirus Professional Edition 4.8.1229. It all worked fine. I rebooted the computer and had a full scan, found some infected stuff, I told it to delete it, etc.
Whenit all was over, I got the avast icon barred with a red line down on the taskbar next to the time and date. It says: avast!: The AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error.
I went to the link they told me to go (the FAQ) : http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-red-circle.html
I updated my Windows components, then did what they said. But when i try to start avast antivirus, it says: Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I tried to repair avast, but i still have this message.
Can you help me, please???
I read on other topics that I had to uninstall all other anti viruses. I had AVG and Kaspersky before, but I uninstalled them. Maybe there are some files who left. What do i do to find them and delete them?
Please help me. Right now my computer has no protection and Windows doesnt stop to tell me that I dont have an antivirus.
First - Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.
The error is also associated to either having another AV installed or remnants of one left after uninstall.
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
I already uninstalled AVG from Add/Remove Programs.
And I still have the problem.
You said something about registries, keys, values and data.
How do I do to check them?
Windows Start, Run, type msconfig and click OK, now use the Edit, Find function to try and see what might be left, you are searching for AVG or Grisoft.
I deleted all the stuff with grisoft, but i have some problems with AVG
sometimes, it says : Unable to delete all specified values or Cannot delete (name of the key): Error while deleting key.
What do I do?
You need to take ownership of the key, right click on it and select, Permissions, from the pop-up you will see a number of user Names or user Groups. Highlight your user name and in the Permissions for Administrators (you obviously have to be logged on as a user with admin rights) and give yourself Full Control, that will allow for the removal of that key.
The question was basically to confirm avast is now working as it should be.
I wasn’t sure if your comment “now it worked” only meant you were able to delete the key, or if it meant that having deleted the keys you also didn’t get the error messages any more.
No you shouldn’t get error messages if avast is working correctly, that is why I asked.
