On my PC … Avast the systray icon constantly turning … (proof that it is active?)
One of my friends told me that this is not the case on his PC … although three agents are activated … its icon is not “lively” …
Question: Is it normal that the icon turns continuously from the start of Avast?
avast icon will spin if there is any activity in your computer … windows indexing / windows update check / program update check / in out traffic by any program / … →
so it just show that avast is doing what it is supposed to do, check evrything that goes on in your computer in real time
if you dont like the spinning icon, then turn it off
Hello Pondus,
Thank you for your response.
I think I understand, but what I wanted to know is: is it the option checked in the exclusions (see previous post of entry) is a good solution …
Good day .
The option in your second image is a default and only works in the location it is set for, the firefox profiles sessionstore .js (javascript files), these are constantly updated and why they are excluded.
However, your location in image 1 is completely different and this area is where your user firefox internet cache is, you could exclude that, but that would leave a huge hole in your security as nothing in the cache would be scanned and that is what the web shield is doing, scanning content before it allows firefox to view (or possibly execute) the content.
OK thanks for your answer…
If I understand (well I am French and it is Google that reflects me …) should be avoided (delete) these exclusions and let Avast …
But hey … in this case is to admit that Avast is constantly working to analyze from the start of Windows even if no application is active … which absolutely not bother me … and prove that active protection is actually active.
The \firefox\profiles*sessionstore.js File System Shield Exclusion is a default exclusion and should be left alone.
I just wouldn’t recommend trying to create a similar exclusion for the cache folders as that could have serious consequences. The file system shield wouldn’t be there to prevent execution of content downloaded by your browser.
Whilst it should be scanned by the web shield before it gets to the cache folder, the file system shield is there to provide a multi layer of protection.
Yes, avast is always present, running in the background to scan active files, first it intercepts the call to executables (so they can’t execute) and avast scans them before allowing them to run if clean.
