Avast thrashing the hard disk after each reboot.

I am running free version 12.2.2276 (build 12.2.3162.2) and after each boot the system is unusable for at least 5 minutes until Avast has stopped thrashing the hard disk.
I don’t know why it needs to do this. Is there an option for this anywhere, I haven’t been able to find it.
Thanks.

Windows 7 Home Premium.

  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
No other security related software running at the same time as Avast that I’m aware of.
SpyBot, Malwarebytes, SpywareBlaster and SuperAntispyware run periodically and closed down when finished.
I’m doing this for a friend and he has only run Avast.

First, be sure to get rid of SpyBot…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Thanks Asyn.
I’ll try that when I get chance.
Why do you say get rid of SpyBot? I have run it on my Windows 7 machine for years without problems.
Or do you just mean make sure it’s closed after running a scan?

I’ve run IBM Dos on my machines for years, but there is time to say goodbye

Spybot used to be a good tool, but it the detection of things has become really bad.

You’re welcome.
