Avast Tools Beta News [Windows]

Avast Cleanup Beta-Test [11.2.86.0]

We’ve got great news for you today: Avast Cleanup, our PC-cleaning software, is undergoing some big changes. It’s sporting a brand-new design, includes exciting new features, and best of all, is now also standalone, which means you can use it even without downloading our antivirus first. Of course, it’s going to need a good beta-testing to ensure we get your thoughts, opinions, and insights so we can make the best it can be. So please don’t hesitate to send us your feedback.

Changelog/Fixes:
• CLEAN: Clean your browser’s cache, search history, browsing history, and the cookies you’ve been gathering from your time surfing the Web. We also detect add-ons and search engines with poor reputations (or, with a small retention rate among our users) and help you get rid of them. In the trial and paid versions of Cleanup, you also have access to junk cleanup, where we get rid of all the unused junk files on your PC.
• OPTIMIZE: In the trial and paid versions of Cleanup, you can tweak the system settings and boot-up options to minimize your computer’s start time. We can also help you get rid of unused applications and clean your registry.
• SCHEDULE: Keep your PC in tip-top shape automatically by setting schedules for lightweight, unobtrusive scans every day, week, or month. You also can activate real-time junk protection, which will get rid of leftover files anytime you uninstall a program.
• NEW: STANDALONE – Avast Cleanup can now be used independently from our other products, meaning anyone can download and get their PC in shape without needing to have our antivirus installed.
• NEW: USER INTERFACE — A more straightforward experience means it’s easier than ever to clean, optimize, or set a schedule for your automatic cleans.
• NEW: Browser Cleanup — Avast Cleanup now has browser-cleaning functions to get rid of cookies, clear the browser cache, and erase your browsing and download history. We also detect bad add-ons and search engines, and help you get rid of them.
• NEW: Boot-Time Optimizer — By adjusting your PC’s settings and disabling or postponing certain applications, Cleanup can now help your PC startup faster.

Known issues:
• The scheduler isn’t working at the moment
• Real-time monitoring isn’t functioning right now
• There’s no progress bar yet

[size=8pt]Hinweis: It’s important to note, there will be three versions of Avast Cleanup standalone: the trial version, which gives you 14 days to try the full Cleanup experience. Afterwards, you’ll automatically begin using the ‘free’ version, which will only allow you to perform browser cleaning functions. To get full functionality back, you’ll need to buy the paid version.

Avast Software Cleanup Beta-Test [12.1.30]

We are happy to announce the technology beta of Avast Software Cleanup (SWCU). Avast Software Cleanup is designed to identify and remove possibly unwanted software (so called “Crapware” or “Bloatware”) from your Windows computer. Any feedback is very much appreciated in the Avast forum section, which is related to Avast Software Cleanup only.

Key features and functions:
• SOFTWARE LISTING: Avast Software Cleanup will scan your computer for installed programs and will show it in a list. By default, only the bad rated programs are shown. Click on “Show extended user interface” in order to view the complete list of installed programs.
• RATING: Software Cleanup provides you a user based rating (orange stars). Based on that rating you can decide what software to remove. Of course you can remove good rated software as well.
• VOTING: In case you want provide your opinion about software you can vote it with one to five stars. Simply click on the stars to vote; software you voted will show your vote with blue stars afterwards.
• MOVE TO TRASH (DISABLE): This is a cool feature which allows you to move a software to a special trash bin before you finally get rid of it. The trash bin allows you to restore the software afterwards in case you changed you mind. A simple click on the button “MOVE TO TRASH” will move the appropriate software to the trash bin.
• COMPLETELY REMOVE: This button is visible after unfolding the appropriate products row (just click it). It allows removing a program completely. Of course programs in the trash bin can be completely removed as well. This action cannot be reverted! In order to allow a simple one-click remove and to prevent other crapware from being installed, Software Cleanup usually will not call the product uninstaller. The product uninstaller will be run only in case of critical system software (drivers) and some other important programs.
• RESTORE: This button is visible after unfolding the appropriate products row (just click it). Programs in the trash bin can be fully restored later on in case you’ve changed your mind.

[size=8pt]Notes:
• The product should already know about most of the common good rated and also about most of the crapware/bloatware. With your usage the system will automatically improve, so please be patient or give us feedback.
• Currently you can easily remove (almost) every software - even the good ones. This can obviously cause damage to your system. So be careful!
• Avast Software Cleanup will create a System Restore Point. In case you notice problems after removal you can revert you system to the last state.
• Software in the trash bin can be restored only if you keep Software Cleanup installed as well.
• Software Cleanup can be kept installed on your PC. It does not run in the background and therefore does not consume any resources if it’s not active.
• During first run Software Cleanup will scan your computer for additional information which it requires for removal. This means there’ll be some low background load for a few minutes. If you try to remove some software before this background scanning has finished, the removal process might take more time than usual.
• For removal Software Cleanup usually will not call the appropriate products uninstaller, instead it’ll use its own uninstall technology. This is usually faster and additionally prevents any additional crapware which is sometimes installed during the removal process of crapware from being installed.
• Critical system software, drivers etc. will be removed by calling the appropriate uninstaller only. This is for safety reasons. (Later on - after beta - we might decide not to allow removal of such software at all.) Such products can not be moved to the trash bin as well - the appropriate button will not be availabe.
• Software Cleanup has an integrated update system which will ensure that you always have the latest build. Therefore you don’t need to download and install new versions.

[size=8pt]Hinweis: Avast Software Cleanup currently is a technology beta only. It’s going to be integrated into Avast’s other programs later on. So please, don’t be bothered by the slightly outdated UI look and feel. Yet it’s unclear if it’ll survive as a standalone product.
