I just installed 4.8 free on my laptop, and I need to exclude some files (which is clean from VirusTotal online scan). I excluded it in the avast settings without problems, but when I want to exclude it the standard shield, I can’t because the tray icon doesn’t even show.
How can I access the standard shield without the tray icon? The “show tray icon” in avast settings is checked.
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
You should submit the file to avast for scanning if it is truly an false positive (see below) that is the long term solution correction of the problem. What is the file name and location and what were the results of the VT scan ?
avast! icon missing - As a temporary measure until this is resolved you can create a desktop shortcut for this file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exe (the avast icon and interface to the providers). Right click on the file and select Send To, Desktop (create shortcut). You will need to run this after each boot until the problem is resolved.
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard or OnGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?
Or Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder.
Send the sample to virus@avast.com zipped and password protected with the password in email body, a link to this topic might help and possible false positive in the subject.
Or you can also add the file to the User Files (File, Add) section of the avast chest (if it isn’t already there) where it can do no harm and send it from there (select the file, right click, email to Alwil Software). No need to zip and PW protect when the sample is sent from chest. A copy of the file/s will remain in the original location, so any further action you take can remove that.
