Avast tray icons gone

Hi,
Apologies if this has already been discussed. After the last programme update, which I did manually, the tray icons have disappeared.I have tried right clicking task bar to make sure “hide inactive icons” is unchecked, and have gone into Avast menu (appearances) and have re-checked “show tray icons”.It still seems to scan ok,but the voice saying “virus database has been updated” has also gone.I suppose I should re-install.If anyone has any other ideas on how I can get the icons and voice back, would be grateful for any suggestions.

  1. Check the option in the Appearance tab of settings.
    or
  2. Repair your avast installation through Control Panel.
    or
  3. Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder
    or
  4. Add the path to ashDisp.exe into a value named avast! in the Windows Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

If that does not help, please, uninstall, boot, install again, boot.

What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc.?

Thanks for that info Tech, will try them and report back.

In the end,I had to do a reinstall after uninstalling existing avast. All is ok now, with both icons back. Its too early yet to know if voice is back, but it should be.Wonder what made the icons and voice disappear in first place?
Thanks for your help
