Avast trying to highjack search settings again

Please Avast, stop trying to highjack search settings in browsers to your own, which earns you money.

I was using default search settings in Firefox, Edge, Chrome and Internet Explorer, yet Avast tries to trick me into changing my settings. Disgusting tactics, which sadly many people falls for.

I agree with you but, if you were to select Resolve,
I seem to recall that one of the choices is to remain with your current selection.

Your current search provider may offer poor search results.

As far as I know any search provider may offer poor search results as the main part of a search is the keyword(s) the user is using.

Correct, at least that’s an option now.

But I still had to go through my 4 browsers to check my search settings, because I knew that Avast was properly showing a false warning.

Sad times what Avast has become, when you can’t trust it anymore and they again and again use shady methods to push their adware

We need to remember that Avast is not a 501c3 not for Profit organization.
It’s still the best free AV out there and with a bit of savvy, keeping it free isn’t that hard.

Correct, at least that’s an option now.

Presumably you have the browser cleanup component installed ?
If you don’t like the way it is doing things or working then get rid of it.

A custom install is certainly advised and you choose what components to install.

Yup it has been removed now, just got the “warning” again.

Clearly Avast doesn’t care about this or their reputation, it’s all about getting the ad revenue money.

Really it should have been removed ages ago I and many others on the forum would suggest people take the time and do a custom install and only select those components that they have a need/requirement for. The rest can be unchecked during the custom install.

People can go even further and select Minimal Installation from the setup file, that only installs the file system shield and the web shield. I believe that Avast is still one of the most configurable AVs out there, the problem is many never take the time to investigate the custom install.
