Avast turned off, setting up and changed restore points

Hi, hoping someone can help with this.

Windows 7 64 bitSony Vaio VPCEB3J1E, Avast 9.0.2021

Avast updated 2 days ago to 9.0.2021 (that’s from the program list) since then the Windows centre has warned me it is off. Avast has a cross through the icon in the system tray.

  • cannot uninstall Avast as says it is ‘setup is already running’
  • tried to repair in safe mode and it just hung near the end of the process
  • cannot start Avast. In the Avast window tried ‘start’ and ‘resolve all’. Seems to launch an .exe but after pressing yes nothing happens
  • restore points are now all Avast from the last 2 days. It’s wiped any previous ones
  • tried to disable Avast then reenable - doesn’t work

Basically, I cannot restore to before this problem occurred and I cannot uninstall Avast as it says it’s running and I can’t seem to stop this anywhere.

The laptop is running very very slow, browser pages (chrome/Firefox) won’t open.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers for that, one question though if I can’t get a browser to open how do I do that?

Download the tool on another computer, move it over with a USB stick…

Cheers Pondus. Removed it in a few seconds and reinstalled. Now all working again.

Just an heads up westnath! Avast! released the final version of Avast! 2015 products. Depending upon the region you live in and time zone. You will get a notification via the Avast GUI on the update settings.
