The UI gets slower over time. Especially when I do targeted scans. It takes a few seconds before the result pop-up box shows up. The other parts of the UI are even slower.
I first noticed this around the beginning of May. At that point, the pop-up box would take 7-8 seconds to show up. After a few days, it didn’t even load anymore.
So I uninstalled avast (also used avastclear) and installed it again on June 7th. The UI became super fast. The results of the targeted scans would appear immediately after the scan was finished.
Today, after 20 days, I noticed that there’s a 2-3 seconds lag before the result box appears. I thought maybe the problem was with the scan history. I cleared the scan history (in geek:area), but that didn’t help.
Does anyone know the reason why the UI is really fast in a fresh installation, but becomes slower over time? I don’t want to reinstall the program every 20 days.
I’ve been using avast free antivirus for about 18 years. Sometimes I download malwarebytes to do a full scan if I feel extra paranoid, but uninstall it afterwards.
Well, the UI is back to normal speed again. I’m not sure what happened.
I would create an empty text file on my desktop and scan it. The results would show up after 2-3 seconds. (Note that I DO have an SSD).
Now, it’s back to instant speed again. However, like I mentioned, there was a point at which I had to reinstall avast due to how slow the UI was to the extent that it would not respond at all.
I would follow the instructions but I don’t think it would help at this point. Maybe I’ll come back to this thread if it starts being slow like that again.
