I have been having problems since the last update. I have reloaded Avast, but I still receive the popup, mail scanner warning with the error 10049. I have checked the Comodo firewall and ashMaiSv.exe is not blocked. Can you help please.
As I recall this indicates that avast is experiencing difficulty with setting the email intercepts.
This can indicate the incomplete removal of a former antivirus product (but there can be other conflicting software - such as your firewall, some form of Internet connection accelerator and others).
Have you recently switched to avast? If so what was your previous antivirus and how did you remove it?
Can you please tell us if you are using a software firewall and which it is?
Hello Alanrf Thank you for replying.
I have had Avast for about 1 year and have not any problems. My firewall is Commodo
I use MS Add & remove programme when I uninstall any software. After I had updated my internet settings had changed and I could not receive or send any mail. However, that aspect has now been rectified, but Avast scanner has this message of unable to protect
Did you tried to repair avast? :-*
Hi Rassel
I am trying rectify the matter. I find the Avast web scanner has 7 providers (total) and only 6 are running. The web shield says it is waiting for a subsystem to start.
Avast web scanner has 7 providers (total) and only 6 are running.
Which one is not running? Is the Outlook/Exchange not running?
Still trying to fix things so I am sorry I have not replied before. It says it is the web shield is not running. I have looked into My computer/manage/services and find that the mail scanner and web mail are set to manual. When I try to change this automatic I am told that access is denied.
Thanks for your help
Cath,
those are the settings that avast wants them (Webshield and Internat Mail provider) to have since they are programatically started by the main avast service. There is no need for you to adjust them and your efforts to do so are being blocked by the new (to avast 4.8) self-protection function.
So in that area all is as it should be.
The Webshield saying it is waiting for a subsystem to start is not a normal occurrence (but has recently been reported by another user in this forum).
Have you tried terminating the Webshield, waiting a while, then starting it again (for the Webshield provider panel)? Does it have any effect?
Hi Alanrf
Many thanks for your time and reassurance that most things are as they should be.
I have since uninstalled avast and reinstalled it again. Now Avast online scanner is working. Six of the providers are currently running, but 7th provider is waiting for a sub system to start is Outlook/Exchange.
Hi.
The Outlook/Exchange waiting to start is normal. It’s waiting for outlook. If you do not use OUTLOOK, note not Outllook express, then all is well in your world.
As oldman has said, unless you use MS Outlook as your mail client then you can safely terminate the Outlook/Exchange provider and “persist” that choice.
MMM but I do use Outlook. Can you make a suggestion as what I need to do?
Thank you
Which version of MS Outlook are you using?
The only real issue with Outlook (assuming it is Outlook 2000 or more recent) is to ensure that you have enabled the avast Outlook/Exchange provider to work with Outlook in the “Add-ins” manager (or the equivalent of that in your version of Outlook).
my brothers laptop has the same error on startup yet he has not changed anything except update Avast program files, the wierd thing is that it appears to have all providers running
As Alan mentions, make sure the avast plugin/add-in is not disabled in MS Outlook:
Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-ins > Manage Disabled items.
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.
I am running Outlook 2000. However as time has gone on all the providers appear to be running. I would like to thank everyone who took the time to help me out. I think the Avast forum is just marvellous. Enjoy your day
No problem, glad everything is OK now.
Welcome to the forums.
