hi–i’m new at this. here’s my problem. avast! says it is unable to scan FC120747d01–what does this mean? is it malware? if anybody knows about this particular file, please help. my computer is an acer laptop, travelmate 4060, i’m using firefox 3 as a browser, & windows xp operating system. thanks.
Hi notosmart,
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\mz5v1kli.default\Cache\FC120747d01 The file is detected as a decompression bomb
The files are in the cache (where Firefox stores temporary files) and due to how Firefox handles the cache they are doing no harm there. Clear your cache and those files should be removed.
C:\Documents and Settings\user-owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\her3qgs4.defaultCache\ <<< delete the contents of the folder in bold. (NOT the folder)
Better even in the Firefox menus select Tools > Options > Advanced > Network - In the Cache section click “Clear Now”,

hi polonus–thanks for responding. i believe i have emptied the cache before, but i’ll try it again…what in the name of creation is a “decompression bomb”–maybe it’s just me, but this doesn’t sound like a good thing to have on my computer…many thanks, i’ll give it a try.
A decompression bomb is a highly compressed file that when unzipped/opened expands into a very large amount of data. Usually, the data is basically meaningless and is there just to take up space on your hard drive.
