Avast UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP ntoskrnl.exe

Hi,

So when Avast almost finishes installing I get a BSOD which says UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP. This BSOD happens every single time I turn on my pc and I have to restore to a previous restore point just to access windows. I know for a fact that it is something to do with Avast because the issue is fixed when I either uninstall avast or revert to a previous restore point.

I tried installing Avast in safe mode which worked but as soon as I restarted my PC I had BSOD again. I have even tried installing Avast on a completely fresh copy of windows as I thought it may have been another driver affecting Avast for whatever reason.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated

Thanks

I forgot to mention that I have had this issue on a previous computer but it wasn’t nearly as bad. I would get the same BSOD once a day but I could still access windows.

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Premium)
  • Which version/build of Avast…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

I have had to reinstall windows as I was getting constant UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP and CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED. IT had corrupted my windows and its restore points.

To answer your questions, I was fully up to date with windows (64bit) and I used the premium trial and regular Avast that you can download off the website but I cant check now what specific version I was running. I had not used any other AV software before.
