Avast uninstall - unclean process?

Hi,

We downloaded Avast 4 Pro as a trial, evaluated the product and decided it wasn’t the tool for us - then used the uninstall wizard which completed satisfactorily.

But now whenever Outlook is started on our evaluation machine we get an error message that says:
The add-in “C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashOutXt.dll” could not be installed or loaded.

Can anyone suggest what needs to be done to stop this problem from continually happening?

Cheers,

B.

See if the avast! uninstall utility helps

It may be that the plug-in reference is still in the Outlook Plug-ins, you need to remove it. The evaluation is looking for the ashOutXt.dll which is obviously not there after the uninstall.

Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.

Sorry I’m not an Outlook user and don’t know what version of outlook you are using if the above isn’t correct.

On other Outlook versions:
Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-inns > Manage Disabled items.
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items.

Tech, The problem isn’t with disabled plug-ins but the opposite, the avast plug-in appears to still be referred to in Outlook even though avast is uninstalled.

I see…
Maybe deleting the entry on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions on Windows Registry.

DavidR you are a star; this is the one that worked.

Thank you.

;D

Your welcome.

Another way of accomplishing the same - deleting “extend.dat”
