Avast uninstall utility

Hi guys
Been advised to start a topic about this.
Since update in February I’ve had major problems with my wireless connection. Tried everything and then realised it was avast causing conflict. Weird as I’ve used it for years.
Anyway I uninstalled via add/remove programs and was advised to download the avast uninstall utility. Ran in safe mode and it deleted. Or so I thought.
Go into my pc security centre and it’s telling me that avast is on and scanning (!!)
There are no avast files on my pc so how can this be?
I ran the utility about 4 times and it’s still the same.
I have windows xp sp3 - is there a different tool to uninstall? Did I use the right one?
I downloaded another av as i did not want to leave myself unprotected and the avast uninstall utility told me there was a conflict and to remove the other av software. Which I found odd considering i was uninstalling avast, but did it anyway.
Any help would be appreciated as at the moment I have no av software on pc and obviously do not want to leave myself unprotected.
Thank you in advance.

Scroll down to second picture … Farbar Reccovery Scan Tool … run as instructed and attach the two diagnostic logs

See below the box you write in … Attachments and other options

Then Essexboy will take a look inside tomorrow

thank you Pondus
Do you think I could be infected??
I will do as you’ve advised tomorrow as I’m having problems getting online right now

Those tools are used to analyze many different problems. Running them doesn’t mean you’re system is infected.

Just as bob said, it is a diagnostic tool and Essexboy have solved a large number of avast and windows issues with these logs

hey guys

sorry for the late reply but I’m having major problems getting online, some days it won’t connect at all. today is the first time in its connected but it took almost 30 minutes and every time i try to download the farbar tool my connection cuts off

is there anything else you can recommend trying? would a system restore fix this?

many thanks.

Can’t recommend till we find out what’s wrong. That’s what the diagnostic tools are for…

finally managed to connect and download farbar

attaching logs

once again many thanks guys

I do see things from AVG…

hey eddy

yeah I have no idea what thats about, haven’t had AVG on pc for years.
same with Microsoft Security Essentials - been using Avast for last few years.

don’t have any AV software on pc at the moment, after I uninstalled Avast I did download something else but the uninstall utility told me there was a conflict with it and to uninstall before the tool could run (?) I did and ran the tool and still having problems - so naturally I’m a wee bit nervous about being online with no protection (!)

I suggest to run the avg removal tool.
You can find it through : http://www.ache.nl/

It can be the the cause of the conflict that was reported.

Hi eddy

I downloaded the Avg remover and ran it and it came up that there were no Avg files on my pc

I am so confused

To be honest I just want my wireless connection fixed

Let me know how the network is after this

CAUTION : This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Hi Essexboy

I don’t know if it’s worth mentioning but I ran the Avg remover again and it found a few files this time (?)

Is it still OK to do as you’ve advised above?

Thank you

Aye if it cannot find the files I have asked for it will skip them

hiya essexboy

sorry for the late reply but i’ve had no connection all day (so frustrating!)

just connected now, going to do as advised and will report back - apologies if I don’t get back tonight due to connection

I also wanted to ask you does this fix also fix the avast showing up in my security centre?

i still need to download av software, as have none at present (!)

thanks again, you’re always a great help ;D

Yes it does show Avast in security centre, but I am removing that

I am resetting your network connection so hopefully you can use the net on completion

hey essexboy ;D

ok sorry to be a pain in the bum but I went into wireless settings and re-typed password, key, etc., restarted pc and my wireless connects straight away (!) restarted pc again incase it was a one off - connected straight away (!) this is odd…if the settings have been changed i don’t know how, unless avast did this after the update in february? which is when my connection problems started ???

also ran avast uninstall utility again (!) and it confirmed (again) that avast had been deleted / uninstalled but security centre is still saying its still there (i’ve attached a pic)

i can’t download any other av software until this is sorted, can I?

Please do only as Essexboy tells you to do.

hey essexboy

i dont know if you read my last message about my connection and that its now working??
ive had no problems with it over last couple days, so should i still do as you advised?
this won’t make things worse again if i do… will it?

also can i install another av software in the meantime even though avast is still showing up in security centre? as i have none and its making me nervous (!)

many thanks
