Avast update crashed internet!

Hello,I`m Dave from Swansea.

I`d been using Avast free version for a couple of months but signed up for a 14 day trial of the pro version with a view to consider the options after 14 days.

Yesterday however I updated to V 9 only to find that Avast was totally unresponsive,unuseable and I am left unprotected!.

At the same time I lost all internet access to my hard wired PC though wireless to my Kindle still worked.

I rang my ISP(Virgin Media )who told me nothing was wrong their side of my connection.

I ran system restore to the day before and was now connected again.Avast remained unusable,the interface telling me that the 14 trial had expired even though there were 3 days remaining by my calculation.

I tried again to update Avast but cannot perform any action at all and I remain without anti virus protection.

I now find I`m wary of Avast but cannot install another anti virus program without first uninstalling Avast,which I am unable to do.

I dont want to leave my PC unprotected but am at a loss what to do next.Im not very computer savvy.

I should add I`m running XP SP 3.

Any one help please?

Just a cautionary note here but upon reading this forum many users of windows xp seem to be experiencing problems with the latest version.

Microsoft are stopping support of xp in the near future.

I pleased to report that I now have 9.0.2006 safely installed so I`m protected once more.
