Avast update fail

Hi there.
I’ve been using Avast for many years and for the first time it let me down on my desktop computer. (I’m now using a laptop)

After start up, Avast wanted to update the program. So far so good. After restart the Firewall stayed down and I wasn’t able to have it reactivated.

Tried to repair the program using the Windows (7) program change/remove which solution I found somewhere on this forum but no succes. Then tried Avastclear to remove everything for my desktop and tried to reinstall Avast directly from avast.com. Unfortunately all internet activity on my desktop PC has been disabled. Blocked!
Using the laptop, I downloaded the full version but whenever I try to run it on my desktop, I get the message that the installer is NOT trusted by Avast! Self Defend module.
Apparently there is still some Avast programming left on my desktop which is not removed by Avastclear. Also tried the old “Fixupdate” but as it seems to be a different issue, that did not work as well.

So please: HELP !!

Did you remove any previous used / factory installed AV before installing avast?
Did you run that vendors removal tool to clear any leftover files?

Have you tried rebooting and then run the avastclear tool again?

I’m using a self build PC which has been running (including Avast Internet Security) for more then a year now.

Which one? Shouldn’t Avastclear remove anything from Avast? Did not use any other AV program on this PC

Yep, I just did,

The result is an error message: The installer is unable to initialize early avast! self-defence with error ox00000005! Aborting!

Can you restore to an earlier time ( system image would be preferable )

I tried that repair as well, going back to system settings of April 16. It was somehow blocked and thus failed as well. :-[

Many thanks, Malwarebytes did the trick. I’m back online with my desktop again.
