Avast Update gone to pot

Tried Several Times to post this thread getting nothing but freeze’s, on hear. Avast Free Software was updating to latest version yesterday when it lost my Wi-Fi connection. after that it would not stay connected, so I had to do a System Restore Windows XP Home I am now in the position of not have AV only Trial version as I cannot now load my Key that runs to August of this year. I cannot put the key into the new little boxes in new version

Repair avast!:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → avast!
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

I agree - I had to disable the web shield to get it to work and then spent about 3 hours trying to completely uninstall it so I could re-install version 7. I searched and tried all the solutions I could find to get version 8 to work and eventually gave up. I have had problems installing on several versions, why oh why don’t you just give a download link so that the previous version can be fully uninstalled before attempting to install the new version the product is fine but your upgrade process is rubbish :frowning:

I finished up Completely uninstalling it including regedit, then reinstalled and was able to enter my Free Key

Finally go V8 working by completely uninstalling while in safe mode and running aswclear.exe to remove everything, obviously I created system restore point before and after. Downloaded the latest version 8 from Avast, installed and all works fine.

Before this I had tried clicking on the upgrade link in the Avast GUI and another time I also installed by selecting update from the Avast popup message, but on both occasions I could not access the internet without disabling the Web Shield after the completion of each update. It looks like the only way to update Avast is to completely uninstall the previous version before installing the new version. In fact I usually end up doing this nearly every time there is a new version. I wouldn’t mind paying for it but I don’t feel happy paying for a product that I have to spend my time fiddling about with to make it work every time there is a new release.
