I updated my version of Avast! today, but many of my shields are not working, as stated in many other posts, but also, i do not have new guis (it appears others do), and i am told a reboot is needed even though i have rebooted multiple times, the messages still appears. The action center in my computer says avast is turned off… and neither avast! itself, or the action center can “turn the program on.” An image has been attached showing all shields not active, etc…
Is there a way to fix these issues, or revert to an older version?
[EDIT: Read some most forum posts, going to try rebooting three times.] [EDIT 2: Rebooted three more times, nothing helped. I will try again later… According to Avast! The version is still in the 8s, but i now know that that is in the 9.0 versions, is the gui the same? I have seen screenshots of a blue and white gui for the shields.]
I will continue reading, and looking, the only thing i cant seem to find is about the new gui… at the moment.

go to www.avast.com > support > downloads > uninstall utility

follow instructions and run for all versions ever used, and reboot
then reinstall avast

did that help?

could you send us c:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log\ directory?
thank you

Thanks for the replies! …

@Lukas.Hisik
I searched and searched, but i cant seem to find any directory file in the log folder, or in any of the Avast! program data.
I apologize, but down below i will attach a screen of all of the files in the log folder!
Or perhaps do you want the log.db file in the Avast! folder? Or do you mean you just want the log folder? Sorry.

@Pondus
Ah thank you, i will try that once i get a response from lukas, i dont want to delete something important!

Lukas refers to the whole “Log” folder (what you have in your screenshot).

Ah, thank you!
Although, i have an issue…
I have put the log folder into a .rar archive and have tried other compression methods, but no matter what, the file is too large to upload in an attachment to the site…
Should i split the files up? And make multiple posts with each document/item?

If you mean it is to large to attach in the forums, that may be the case as there is a 512kb limit, not only that you can’t attach .rar or .zip files only text based files. .txt and .log.

Give the .rar file you are uploading a unique name (e.g. forumusername-logs-folder.rar, etc), so they can identify it. It might not be a bad idea to create a text file (readme.txt) with any relevant information, avast topic URL, user name, etc. etc. in the zip file. Not to mention posting the name of the file you uploaded in the topic, this acts as another searchable reference.

Upload the .rar file to the ftp server ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming:

  • Using Windows Explorer, Connect to the link and drag the file into the Right pane and drop it, that starts the upload, you don’t have read access to this folder.

Thanks for the explanation!
When i drag the file in the right of the site, i get a save or cancel download message? Do i choose to save?
Thanks again, sorry if i mis-understood.

Check out the image, effectively you have to have two windows explorer window open. One open at the folder the file you want to upload, the other at a blank window.

Copy and paste this url into the address bar of the blank one.

ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming

Now drag the file you want to upload from one explorer window, into the right side of the other window.

EDIT: code url edited, was incorrect.

Hmm…
Did that, but the file didnt send, I think.
When I let go of the file my windows explorer crashed, both in the network area, and a new window, open to libraries.

Heres the crash report:

OK, I don’t know if this was because I made an error on the URL given in the code box, but if you could try again using this URL.

ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming

What explorer version are you using ?
How big is that .rar file ?

Version?

Application Name: explorer.exe
Application Version: 6.1.7601.17567

Size?

2.77 MB (2,914,810 bytes)
2.78 On disk

New url seemed to work?
i was taken to the internet > ftp.avast.com > incoming
and the file was copied…
All good?

OK, hopefully lukas can take a look at it.

what’s the name of the uploaded file?

I suggested giving it a unique name like his forum user name “Thundagia” plus -logs-folder.rar, but I don’t know if Thundagia did that.

Hey!
Thanks for all of the help!
The file name is : Thundagia-logs-folder.rar (Or at least it was when i sent it!)

Thank you! There is one more directory that I forgot to mention - c:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Persistent Data\Avast\Logs\

However it seems that there your avast installation is somehow partially broken. Easiest way to fix it will be re-install :frowning:
