hi,
VRDB has nothing to do with inet-update
you might want to read the manual or the FAQ
what happens when you select Update->IAVS-Update (from the blue icon with rightclick ) ?

nothing at all !!! that seemed strange to me … the only thing that was different was that vrdb…

try this
open taskmanager and if there is avastsetup.exe turn it off
or check all avast files what are open,in taskmanager and then paste it here…
SOLUTION:
i did open task manager,i did turn off some thing…umm…i think it was avastsetup.exe or some, then i did go to add or remove program
clicked avast antivirus Chance/remove…ok…after that i did press check proxy settings,ok…putted mark to auto detect (use internet explorer settings) and then tested the connection, all went fine,it did get info from avast server…ok
then i tried update and it did update avast perfectly!

from the avast there are 4 files running: ashdisp.exe, ashmaisv.exe, ashserv.exe, aswupdsv.exe. thats all update still doesnt work… what is the most strange thing is that if i put avast on automatic update… i receive an error … connection error even when i`m connected…
i will also look thru the services that are running…
Which is your OS?
Aren’t you messing VRDB with iAVS like whocares wrote before?
Do you have a dial up or DSL connection? How is avast! configurated (Settings > Update (Advanced) > …)?
Can you receive/send emails and browse the web?
To help you we need more information. ;D

OS 2000 … dial up, web, pop3, everything goes normal just updating avast won`t work
mirel, can you please read carefully the first posts… We need to know what are you talking about: VRDB or iAVS, translating, the database for recovery after a virus infection (VRDB) or the update of avast! program and virus definitions…
Do you use a firewall? Proxy filter?
I cannot imagine anything else which is causing the update failure…
With the information you gave to us is very difficult to see where the trouble is.
