Avast! upgrade failure....

Hi all, i am using the free version of Avast! and currently running 7.0.1426.

I tried to run the update from the Avast! panel, rebooted, crashed my computer.

I am running Win 7 64Bit, unti reboots, welcome screen, then no display just a cursor, the only way around this was to system restore.

I then tried the new .exe downloaded it, ran it, same thing.

Welcome to the forum. :slight_smile:

 1. What was the previous version of Avast you had on your machine prior to upgrading?
 2. What other security software do you currently have or did you have in the past on this machine including: - if you had other security software on your system, stop here and ask us if you need to uninstall the previous or current software before proceeding further even if you uninstalled in the past.
 • Antivirus (AV)
 • Firewall (FW)
 • Trial versions of AV, FW and other security programs
 • Other security software

Please answer the questions above in your next post first prior to proceeding below. Thank you.

Do you still have the Avast download file for 7.0.1426 on your HDD?

Can you get into Safe Mode or normal mode now? If so, download the Avast Uninstaller Tool: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your HDD (put it on your desktop where you will remember it).

Uninstall ALL versions and products of Avast as directed by the Avast Uninstaller Tool and reboot in between each uninstall if you have more than one version or product.

Install the newest version of Avast and reboot.

Get Internet access and register your copy or add the license key for Free.

Update the Avast definitions.

SafeSurf,

I have Avast v 7.0.1426, also using Windows FW
No other AV installed, as i reset my OS back to factory not too long ago and installed Avast.

No joy when trying with the way you suggested :frowning:

I dont have the previous installer anymore as i keep my system very clean (I work in Industrial IT)

What firewall are you using?

Do you have any other security software on your machine?

Do you not read posts prior to replying? The OP clearly stated in the opening post what he runs, he then replied with that same info again … yet you persist in asking the same thing.

@ AdrianH,

No need to get in a huff about things. The OP did not post all his information in his FIRST post, but in his second post. I mistakenly missed it in his second post since I was dealing with multiple users in need of assistance at the same time. Regardless, I am still waiting to hear from the OP if his is using other security software. There is a reason why I ask this. Until then, I need to wait for the OP to reply, and you need to respect others on the forum as you would want to be respected. Thank you.

I am using the following:

FW => Windows 7 Firewall

AV => Avast! 7.0.1426

No other traces of previous AV/FW, this due to me cleaning my OS, and also running System recovery back to default a few weeks back.

I run CCLeaner, and Defraggler regularly to insure the system is clean, I also AV scan regularly as well.

So most likely your machine is clean. Is Avast 7.0.1426 running properly now? I would not suggest upgrading at this point because next week they are fixing some glitches. Is your machine working normally now?

SafeSurf,

Yes, I have my machine stable. I will wait for patches

OK…so everything is running fine now. We’ll wait for the patches and see how things go next week. Thank you for allowing me to assist you. Have a nice weekend. :smiley:
