I thought i would post regarding a small issue that has happened quite a lot during my use of Avast. Often, when i start my PC, avast does not load. It normally appears in the small box that opens by clicking the tiny arrow on the taskbar. However, it just does not show. So i go to the desktop and click Avast to open it, and nothing happens. This is quite regular. Another small bug is that often, while running normally and appearing in the above stated location, while using my PC, i click the arrow and notice the Avast Icon has disappeared. So i attempt to open Avast from the desktop as stated above so as to check my PC’s status and nothing happens. It is as if it has locked up or frozen. I have never had this with any other AV’s in the past and have no idea what causes it or how to fix it aside of rebooting.
Win 7 64 bit. 4x 3.30 gig icore CPU on 4 gig ram. 1TB HDD and 1TB slave HDD.
The PC is clean and has a health check on a regular basis - i also use bleeping Computer Forums to run health checks and remove nasty files.I also run Malware Bytes and CCleaner every few days.
I would like to fix this because i prefer to have things run smoothly.
Click on the small upwards pointing white triangle (arrow) in the task bar
From the menu the opens click on Customize
Find the orange Avast antivirus icon.
Across from the item, in the Behaviours column use the pull down and select "Show icon and notifications.
Click on OK.
Now the avast icon should show in the task bar without having to click on the white triangle.
You should be able to open the avast gui by clicking on this icon.
6. With the avast gui open, click on Settings, then click on appearance.
7. Make sure there is a tick in both the “Show avast tray icon” and “Animate the icon when scanning” boxes
8. Click on OK
9 Reboot
If the icon in the task bar doesn’t stay put, then I would suggest it is time to try
(a) A repair of Avast and if that doesn’t work
(b) Uninstall, cleanup using AvastClean.exe, then reinstall.
I do not wish Avast to be placed on my toolbar. But even so, this does not open Avast. I have it on my desktop and in programs and clicking it does not open it. In the options under customise tab - it will say it is not available . A reboot is usually the only solution.
Double clicking on the desktop icon should open the avast GUI. If it doesn’t then your installation isn’t working properly and as I suggested before, you should first try a repair and if that doesn’t work, an uninstall and clean up with AvastClear.exe and a clean new installation. That assumes you properly removed any previous AV you might have had installed prior to Avast, using the appropriate removal and clean up tool for the particular AV.
Hello. This is a bug, not an installation fault . It is intermittent. Basically, Avast often doe not load up correctly during the boot process. Something goes wrong and it clearly locks up. The rest of the time, it works fine. At this time, Avast is only on trial after using MacAfee for so long. So far, things have not been so smooth. I still have no reply to my post about the Soundcloud bug as well. With Millions of Soundcloud users, i would think this to be a Major issue and would be nothing more than a script to fix. Now it is causing an issue with Ad-Block by re directing an image file of some sort from legitimate sites like Youtube - in fact every site i go on. It is fighting with ad-block in my toolbar extensions.
I can not even be bothered posting about such things because i do not get an answer that pertains to such things being due to perhaps a setting that needs changing or the like. It is always the same. Remove it and re-install it. I do not foresee myself going pro with Avast.
It now keeps telling me my update status is critical: So i update (Usually Flash player) and it still report as critical right away and every day the same. I wish it would do it’s job quietly and do it right, is all i ask.
The tray icon can be used to check if your avast vps are up to date, and to “temporarily disable” certain shields.
