avast use 100% of CPU can't turn of test

Hi.

I use Avast 4.6 Home and yesterday, i don’t know why, avast start to scan my whole disk. It allready testing the disk 2 days and still dont finish. (i have very big disk and slow computer.) The only way to stop this test is to turn of resident shield but this is not good idea, my computer will be unprotected. While avast testing the disk, cpu load is 100% and any other work on PC is impossible.

Please, can anyone help me how to disable whole disk test but keep standatrd shield on?

If you right click the skin and choose ‘Send to Background’, won’t the scanning use less CPU?

Well. The program is minimized to tray, however, i don’t want to use less CPU when avast is scaning, i want to COMPLETELY STOP THE TEST of the whole disk!

Well avast doesn’t just up and start scanning, especially the home version which doesn’t have a scheduled scan element to it. You would have to have manually set it up using a work around with ashQuick.exe and windows task scheduler (set for a certain time/day, etc.) and you would know that.

When you say ‘it’ already scanned it two days ago, I assume you mean ‘you’ scanned it two days ago ?

The only thing I can think of is automatic VRDB generation that however, depends on your settings and it would only happen if either your screen saver or your system was idle; from what you say this doesn’t appear to be the case.

Have you checked task manager to identify which process is using the 100% CPU cycles, ashServ.exe is the main scanning process ?

Are you sure that it is in fact scanning files (avast icon rotating) and not somehow locked at 100% ?
You could also set the ‘Show detailed info on performed action’ in the standard shield and see if it is scanning files.

It’s not the same… background uses less CPU, minimizing the window is just not viewing it…

So, just click ‘stop’ or ‘pause’ (if you want to restart the test later).
