really avast what the hell happened to you. you used to be a reliable program I knew I could trust.
Now you won’t shut up with trying to sell me stuff. and really, - Google is an untrustworthy search engine, but bing and yahoo are not?
I have used avast since it’s beginning and recommended it to everyone I knew, but no more.
I am uninstalling this bloatware and will do the same on all my friends computers as I am the one who fixes them when they break.
normally I wouldn’t bother with the rage post before quit, but I am sad and upset to have to do this. what was once a good and decent program has turned into a dirty crack whore.
Another avast user that has not noticed there exists something like a custom install.
For all that is n’t to you liking there is an opt out. ;D
Tweak it back to the S… you are happy with.
I recommend to include the shields, the software updater.
And remember avast! does not dictate you install the Google browser that comes bundled- opt out - when you hold any grudge against Google products. Remember Google comes bundled - the marketing department and the developers also have some bills to pay. A pity Google does not allow an opt-in in his bundling policy. On the other hand
Google has also put some effort to keep the Internet more secure - with Google Safebrowsing, the acquirement of VirusTotal etc. And Google is USA based and a global player as is avast! - it is one market…
Software installs to-day are a bit different from those we experienced in the past - sign of the times - something I cannot help as a user - so you have to pay attention and you cannot rely on others to do that for you. A default user is an insecure user - an informed and educated user knows what to allow and what to decline. Other times - other choices - more user responsibility - more user awareness. Think for yourself avast! is still the best free av product you can get on this very planet - and I spent ten years of deep research to find these facts.
It seems you did not adopt to the new global av-solution formula. RipVanWinkle -did you sleep under some stone ?
You are right.
People have to think for themselves and if you weren’t accustomed to do so you will learn to adopt the hard way.
Just like the users on Android 4 that had too little memory to upgrade, so the user has to buy a new phone all the time to get even with the actual security demands. If you don’t know what you buy, you are had great time. It is just an example to what situations ignorant users will lead us.
With avast innovation isn’t an empty word, so the program will change over times. And you are right you cannot install a program closing your eyes or using the coffee brake for it or go “pay a penny”.
@ firestarter024
There is nothing stopping you removing the elements you don’t want even after installing avast. But it is better to have done a custom install in the first instance.
Remove features after installation:
Control panel > Programs & Features > avast antivirus > Change - from the Change screen uncheck the ‘Browser Cleanup’ element in the Tools section
Ah “Ugly Kid Joe” Since it was only going down they could have made it easier with a slide to hell ;D and to get out we take Led Zeppelin’s Stairway To Heaven ;D
Is everyone missing the point
The Avast customer is complaining because avast! has changed.
If you can’t see it, there must be something wrong with your eyesight.
avast! is still the best AV but in order to make it that way, you now have to go through hoops.
Is the effort worth the price, you bet it is or I wouldn’t still be using and endorsing and preaching the avast! tune.
But please, don’t belittle an avast! customer for stating some facts.
Showing a bit of irony* (*with a couple of smileys to bring the humor involved across) should not hurt any user and all the advice given was only to help out.
We will take every OP and their message seriously. Things change over time, bob3160, you do not treat your car like you did ten years ago. I guess there is something quite different out on your patio to cruise around New Mexico and the maintanance of it also different then ten years ago.
Same with av programs and the hoops and hurdles users apparently have to jump through (you can find and read about them on screen while installing). When in doubt come here for additional info, that is why this bunch dwelling here on these forums is for If I as an OP would read this thread again I wouldl never forget what I had learned to-day,and that is all that this is about. Using computer av tools and programs should be fun :).
My car Damien, is still my 2003 Buick. My avast! was also first installed back in 2003.
I still maintain both just as I did in 2003. Blinders can’t hide the fact that some of the
features recently included with the avast!'s install have caused problems.
Some of those problems still haven’t been fixed. Read the recommendations by many evangelists
about these add-ons. I only disable portions of the avast! Online Security module. Many recommend total removal or,
avoiding installation in the first place.
I’m not criticizing, I’m trying to get action on improving what needs fixing.
