I have been noticing that avastsvc.exe has been using a large amount of committed memory. I have been trying to combat the issue by rebooting but obviously this only fixes the issue temporarily. I was hoping someone might be able to help me “correct” the issue or advise if it may just be time to purchase more memory.
I am using a Sony Vaio Laptop running Windows 7 with 4GB of memory. I have included two screenshots, one of the processes tab and one of the performance tab
I am using the Avast Internet Security and have been for quite sometime (several years) so this was not just recently installed. I am presently connected to this laptop via logmein so that may also explain the large number of processes running. It was from the logmein dashboard that I noticed Avast using so much committed memory.
Windows 7 us designed to use as much memory as possible to save disc swapping. You appear to have several internet facing programmes running Trillian, Logmein, Chrome etc. Avast will be monitoring and scanning these programmes as they transfer data to and from the net
When you installed/updated Avast was it clean or was it on top of V9, V8 etc…
CAUTION : This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer
Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

On completion a log will be generated please post that

I have been updating from whatever original version I downloaded years ago. I am sorry but I do not recall the original version.
I have completed the requested tasks and attached requested files. However, there was no S1 file, only an S0 and an R0. I have included both just in case.
