4 .exe’s belonging to avast are using around 50,000k at the moment, That is WAY too much for me. I just want to know, what is necessary to block any virus before opening it or just normal scans, without having the extras that i don’t need?
And, how do i change those options to set which parts to de-activate?
First, there’s no way to tell how much memory the processes really use.
Second, I don’t think 50MB is that much if avast! is scanning something; the memory usage usually drops after some time to a lower value.
Third, you may stop some of the resident providers, e.g. using the tray icon popup menu, but the difference probably won’t be very significant.
Personally I think that is negligible, I have many more application that use way more than that and they aren’t security applications and when compared to other AV avast is relatively light.
Firefox is currently using 150MB and avast only features at no 5 in most used RAM and only has 2 in the top 11.
RAM is there to be used and scanning files uses RAM, it is relatively cheap at the moment and is an easy upgrade that will improve overall system responsiveness. Though you don’t mention anything about your system, RAM, CPU, etc.
