Avast v2014-9.0.2008

Goodafternoon,
I’ve been having a few problems with Avast auto-starting on a reboot. Sometimes I have to allow it to Run with a Popup from Microsoft and sometimes it’s just not running and I have to Click Icon to start it.
(Running Win 7-Home Premium). Im wondering if I should remove and reinstall ? This has only been since the current version as Listed above. I “LOVE” Avast and have been using for 7 yrs now.

Thank you for any help you could provide,
Sherri

Before doing a clean install try a repair.

Control Panel>Uninstall a Program>double click “avast”>click “repair”>reboot

Goodmorning,

Thank you for the reply and im sorry for not getting back sooner. I did try a repair back at time of this reply and have since updated my avast to the current version (as listed in my Signature). I just updated to version 9.0.2011 the other day and rebooted but still it asked for permission to RUN… It does start up tho, no problem there.

Is this the Normal ask to run? after a reboot ?

Thank you, Sherri

A screenshot of the pop-up would be nice?
Have you tried more than two reboots in succession?
Also what other security software do you have now or ever had?
If uninstalled, how was it uninstalled?
What are you using for a firewall?

And what does Avast “HE” mean?

Goodmorning,

Nope I haven not, Im gonna restart laptop 2 times and get right back to ya.

Avast and Windows firewall. No network setup at this time (removed a couple months ago, another topic at a later time)

HE meaning HomeEdition

I usually do the updates right ontop of the current version. Sometimes I download the update and install it myself over the top.

Gonna do them reboots and get back to you.

Ok, did 2 reboots… When the desktop loads, first popup is Microsoft asking if I want to Allow AVAST to run. (can’t grab screen shot of that)

Maybe thats normal but some months ago it didn’t need approval. Something changed in the Windows Updates maybe ?

EDIT: I don’t have the problem of it Autostarting tho. That was my main concern. That seems fixed now, with except of always asked first. Don’t have to Start it myself anymore

Add Avast to the programs list in Windows firewall, give it the network locations you want to allow, and you should be fine.

Try a clean install…

Download and save aswclear.
Download and save avast free.
Run aswclear from above. You will be prompted to reboot into safe mode>click “yes”.
Reboot.
Install avast free from above.
Reboot and register.

By the way it’s now called avast “free”.

The OP mentioned the issue is “When the desktop loads, first popup is Microsoft asking if I want to Allow AVAST to run. (can’t grab screen shot of that)”

That’s why I recommended the Windows Firewall instructions to try first, rather than a clean re-install.

When all else fails, a clean re-install is the way to go…

When the Windows FW pops up, simply answer yes.
This will happen any time you update the avast! Program. It is normal.
