First of all I want to say that I like Avast! AV very much, I like his features and user interface, but I understand current version of Avast! (4.7 ) doesn’t offer me protection, that must offer every solid AV today, I mean Avast! isn t good in heuristic detection, he’s rootkit protection is very poor, Alwil virus submition and response on new viruses isn’t also perfect
I heard these problems will fixed in Avast! V5 but…
Every AV company offers today new beta versions of their products, all of them works hard to make their AV better, why we don’t hear enything from Alwil? I don’t longer say anything about plans for Security Suite or something like that :
Can anyone say approximately when Alwil plans make new version 5? I really want switch to this AV but not on current version. So please say the date.
Sorry for my bad English, I hope you will understand what I mean.
There are a lot of threads about that… you can’t say they never talk about.
You can criticize other points but not that they never open their ‘policies’ about improvements. Just search the board…
avast doesn’t have heuristics, so it is hardly going to score highly in that area, although in a recent test it scored better than some that did and you would be surprised what was behind avast.
avast doesn’t have anti-rootkit detection, so again it is hardly going to be strong in that area it does though detect some of the initial files that will be trying to establish the rootkit. Before they become established it can be detected and there are measures you can take, to help prevent them getting established. Check out the dropmyrights link in my signature.
avast also has beta development and the first place you will hear about it is on the forums, so regular members are often involved in the beta testing, you can also subscribe to the beta testing when you register at least you used to be as far as I remember.
There have been a few topics about version 5 and a wishlist as long as your arm, but apart from that there has been no firm list of features or firm date when it will be released.
As an avast user I’m happy with the current version and over three years that I have used, yes I look forward to testing version 5 beta when it comes out, but would I stop using avast in the mean time, absolutely not. There are other anti-rootkit tools (see, anti-rootkit, detection, removal & protection http://www.antirootkit.com/software/index.htm.) that can be used as a back-up to avast, as are there on-demand AVs or anti-spyware applications that use heuristics.
These not only improve your overall detection but provide a multi-application/layer approach to system security rather than rely on a single application for everything. So even when version 5 does arrive I doubt that I will change my multi-application/level approach to security.
Even if avast! doesn’t have heuristics and anti-rootkit detection, it is a very very good antivirus-program! I feel very secure when I use avast! But I also looking forward to v5, but as I said, I feel secure already!
How many years this realase of Avast! is out? It’s not time to comes out new improved version?
Yes i agree, current version is very good and offers good security, but I only want to say that it’s time to do new improved version that will offers us better detection and security.
Well, I honestly don’t understand these comments.
A new build of avast! is released every few months, and of course it offers better protection than the previous ones. What difference does it make if we call it 4.7.xxx, or 4.8, or 5.0? Changing the version number doesn’t really mean anything.
I also don’t know who told you that the current version “doesn’t offer you protection” - in my opinion, recents AV tests have proved otherwise.
And no, I’m not revealing any plans for v5.0, sorry.
Ok I want version of Avast! (and not only me) that will have at last these abilitis:
Heuristic
Anti-Rootkit
Self defense or auto-protect to avoid shut down of Avast! by some viruses, because detection of your Avast! will be unused if AV will terminated and not functioning…
If you are talking about Avast! s detection improvement accordigng recent test, why you don’t say something how Avast! detects Rootkits according same tests? or how works Avast! heuristic detection? And if there is several Anti-Rootkit softwares, it does’t mean that same technology is unused for Avast!
I am not Alwil enemi or someone like that, I only want that next version of Avast! have at least these three abilitywant because they are very important for every AV. For me it doasn’t matter what version you will call 5, 6 or 54 !
I think I don’t talk about mystical, unreal abilitis of AV, these steps are well known for other AV companys, I only ask, why not for Avast! ???
These 3 things mentioned are imo the most important. Everything else is already polished nearly to perfection. But there is still no self protection and no rootkit detection. And we all know overall detection is never high enough. So more advanced engine with better detection capabilities is always welcome.
