Avast version 5 exclusions

Hi, Ive just upgraded from 4.8 to 5.0.462, and I have noticed that when you browse to exclude a file there is no longer a list of files within a program as there was in in version 4.8? You can only select the program itself, or subfolders of the program. You have to manually enter the full dos path manually?

Have I missed something or is this the nature of the new version, because thats not a forward step if it is?

Thanks in advance
DD

No, that list of exclusions does not need to be added. Just keep the defaults (on that particular settings)

Once you have selected the folder, it is added to the exclusions list with a * at the end, which would exclude all files in that folder. You can edit this and change the * at the end for the specific file name.

Im Sorry, this statement makes no sense to me.

What im saying is that if I want to exclude a file from being scanned (for example as recommended by jv16 exe file) I could browse avast 4.8 and add it very easily. Version 5 only lets you select only folders by browsing???

see david’s post; he told you how to point to files…

Yes, got it right now, thanks again for your help.

Glad that you have now got it, though it would be nice if the exclusions allowed you to drill down to file level if needs be. This would save having to type in the file name and extension and avoid the confusion as to “why can’t we exclude files” questions.
