Have you, at any time, had Avast! 7 installed prior to Avast! 6 ? Just a thought. If you did, and have not ran aswclear.exe in safe mode, maybe some files in Avast! 6 detect Avast! 7 and eventhough you are off line, it asks you to upgrade Avast!. That is the only plausible explanation I see for Avast! 6 to ask upgrade.
I am having the same behavior while trying to fall back from ver7 (way too buggy). Ver 1.0.1367 was fine… everything worked. I don’t have any other AV product on my system. I had ver 7 and had ver 6 prior to ver 7. The AIS 6.0.1367 install refuses to instal 1367 and insists on downloading and installing ver 7. I fell back to 6.0.1125 version and it did install but now Win 7 action center is saying I don’t have a malware, virus or firewall product installed. The 1367 install still has the same problem even with the Ethernet adapter disabled.
When I did a Virus definition/engine update under 6.0.1125… after it updated it reported that I was on 7.0.1426. This is completely wrong. I have all ver 6 screens and features.
The only new info based on the previous posts is that I did NOT run awsclear in SAFE Mode just is normal windows mode. Somewhere in the registry or leftover file there is 7.0.1426 version number.
Please… any help will be appreciated. I ran AIS for a year and a half or more with no problems after dumping a buggy ZoneAlarm Extreme Internet Security release. I don’t want to have to find yet another security package.
