Avast version 8.0.2008 automatically updating to v9.0.2008

Hi i am currently having an issue with avast v8. I prefer the Ui over the new one and so i turned off automatic program updates. Yet every few days for some reason it automatically updates on it’s own and asks me to restart my computer so it can install an update. So i have to uninstall avast and reinstall it every few days so i can get past having to use the v9 of avast.

Does anyone have any ideas on how i can stop this from happening?

Thanks

What’s the big deal with how the UI looks, who sits and stares at there antivirus ??? The 2014 version has better protection and that is what you should be concerned with imo, the latest beta 9.0.2010 also seems to be better on resources as well.

Hi
Download aswclear from avast site and run it. This will remove a your old version of avast. Aswclear will run in safe mode.
Then go to file hippo.com and download the avast old version you require from there. I am using v8.1489 at the moment on my normal computer, as some issues with windows xp on V.9. Running beta version on my test rig at the moment happy with it soon will be a new release soon. Cannot wait to try it!

I agree with craigb. Security before looks.
I rather have a ugly car that brings me to where I want then a beautiful car that doesn’t drive.

And if you want to prevent version 8 from updating to 9, then set Program Update settings to ‘manual’.

He doesn’t want the newest version. A lot of us don’t. Especially when you have to disable parts of the program to make it work. Why do you always have to say the same thing to someone that wants to stay with a version they like and that works? If Avast would release a stable and working 2014 we would all “upgrade”.

I ran v9.0.2008 without problems, a number of my friends I spoke to about it also ran it and none of them has had any problems. Who is to say the OP of this thread won’t have problems - I suggest an upgrade would be a good thing and the latest RC 9.0.2010 is even better.

Every persons computer is configured differently to the OS, Hardware, and Programs running on it so I doubt that Its easy to just make everything work right off the bat. I may not use Avast for protecting my own computer but I still use it on other pcs of my family and the 3 computers here(all different OSes) havent had a problem other than an occasional problem my dad has with the software updater because he updated but it hadnt refreshed.

That’s true. If someone don’t want something, then why advise them something else? There is a reason why people don’t upgrade sometimes. Usually they revert back to earlier version because that worked in their system while the latest didn’t. Even in my case v9.0.2008 have problem that no one was able to solve and I was suggested to upgrade to version 9.0.2010 which didn’t come out yet so I am waiting for it. Others might not decide the same. Let them stick with their choice if they are happy with what they have and working. Help them with what they want. Advice to upgrade doesn’t work when they had already mentioned that the new version is having problem.

Interesting,

No one asked what operating system the OP was using.
If it happens to be Windows 8 or 8.1 then a possibility is that the update is being forced by emupdate.
