I’ve been using AVAST at home and was advising my wife to buy the pro version for her business. The recent events made me to pause… My wife’s small tour company has 5 computers and everyone of them got a sven type virus. I tried to clean (to discover it at first) with avast but it did not find it. Than. I tried Kasperskii and it found it and got rid of it!
Now, I am confused. I always thoughtthat AVAST picks every virus… Could you tell me how AVAST stands up against the other (namely Kasperski)
Is avast using the latest iavs file? (virus deffinitions)
Of course!
hmm i think this calls for Technical’s expert help ;D try to send him a PM
There are some forums discussing swen virus. Take a look on some of them:

Remember, Microsoft does not send email to users telling that there are updates available. They are only found at Windows Update page. The subjects of the emails could be: Last Internet Critical Pack, and Newest Net Security Update or Last Internet Critical PAck has an attacjment called Q388518.exe and Newest Net Security’s attachment is Patch66.exe.
If you checked the Windows Update site you will see that these updates does not exist. It’s a virus. Win32:Swen is a worm, spreading through e-mail, shared folders, Kazaa P2P network and IRC. It switches off antiviral and personal firewall software on the infected computers.
Removal instructions are here
I think if correctly configurated, avast! will catch this virus.
Anyway, Kapersky seems to be a good antivirus too but I never used it. ;D
It´s strange, since VPS file dated on or after 18th September 2003 was able to detect this worm… (see at the bottom of this page).
Maybe the question must be, do you have the last setup version (4.1.289).
See in this forum what our ‘guru’, Vlk, said. ;D
When I was downloading my Yahoo mail with YahooPops, avast’s mail scanner caught the dozen or so spams with the virus. This was around Sept-Oct when my Yahoo mail was getting hammered with them.
My one experience with that particular virus is that the Avast email scanner caught it.
I had never caught a virus ;D
Anyway, I fell myself secure with avast! and other protections (spamkiller, trojan and script blocker, firewall, proxy filter and so on) 8)
I wii still keep AVAST on my personal notebook to see how thinks develop. However I could not sacrifice the network of my wife’s business and I use Kaspersky for now. However, Kaspersky slows system significantely. AVAST is FAST!
I will allow you to use the above as your advertising slogan! 8)
