Avast virtualization driver causes BSOD

Yesterday afternoon I was running Spotify and was loading onto my Opera browser when the Spotify transmission began to choke. I thought it was just CPU usage, but the music didn’t resume. When I went to look at my screen, I had a BSOD STOP message as follows:

STOP: 0X0000008E (0XC0000005, 0X8054BF8F, 0XF2A2F44C, 0X00000000)

Using BlueScreenView, my minidump revealed many affected files, but the 3 highlighted ones were:

avast virtualization driver 7.0.1407.0
NT Kernel & System 5.1.2600.6165
Multi-user Win32 Driver 5.1.2600.6188

I was able to recover a semblance of my system using Last Known Good Configuration.

I have done a hard drive check (OK), 3 iterations of memtest 86+ (OK), reboot checkdisk (OK). When I did sfc scannow, I got the message: Your system has recovered from a serious error, etc. I have also reviewed all my drivers in Device Manager, they are all updated (as much as they can be). I am also up-to-date with Microsoft updates.

It looks like the latest update/install of Avast is causing the problem. How can I correct the problem to avoid BSODs in the future?

I am using a Dell Inspiron 600m, Windows XPSP3, IE8, Opera 11.5, Avast antivirus, Spyware Blaster, Malwarebytes Antimalware & Emsisoft Antimalware.

I appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Please upload the minidump to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming
Thanks.

I’m sorry, I can’t get the upload to work. Can you give me instructions on how to that. Thanks.

Okay, I did figure it out (!) I sent it as a compressed file. Please let me know what you think.
