Anybody know if Avast can do the same things as Exterminate It? On the free download I discovered a ton of Malware and tracking cookies. Thought Avast could handle those as well.
Never heard of “exterminate it” and quite frankley i wouldn’t bother with it as there are more highly rated programs such as Malwarebytes and Superantispyware.
Avast doesn’t clean cookies because there not deemed a risk, you can set your browser to delet cookies and Ccleaner will delet them also.
Yes cookies are only dangerous if you are obese or have diabetes.
And your PC is above such concerns (being non-organic), so they are no threat.
Avast! has better things to do than chase cookies. imo
Wot has heard of exterminate-it ;D>>http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/exterminate-it.com
Some examples of this ton of malware file name, location and malware name, etc.
Looks like exterminate-it should be on its own lists.
As has been said tracking cookies aren’t an issue - many security applications make a big deal about tracking cookies, waste of time and effort. The others that know they are no big deal don’t even look for them.
- The main issue with cookies are third party cookies, those that aren’t for a site that you are viewing, they can track your browser usage and activity for that site other site (shopping, etc.). Depending on your browser (?) you should be able to block third party cookies, you can also set your browser to clear your cookies when you close it.
Since I use Firefox 6.x, I also have the cookie monster add-on and by default that only allows session cookies; they are only valid for the time you have your browser is running. The cookie monster add-on also allows you to accept cookies (normal time limited ones) for a site, like forum.avast.com as cookies are used so you don’t have to logon all the time, etc.
All of the above helps remove the need for you to manually manage cookies.
Exterminate-it is very FP prone I have only used it in extreme cases and I always look at the scan before I tell them what to remove. It does find some new stuff but the FP rate is very excessive
I consider myself very computer security aware, and this is the first I have ever heard of Exterminate-It.
Ooops sory wrong one I meant remove it pro http://www.incodesolutions.com/
Thanks all for the replies. I’m new to this so bear with me. My kids use the laptop at times and go to gaming sites that I’m guessing now, flood the computer with Adware, Malware, Tracking Cookies, etc. I get pop-ups for some damn Pickle advertisement that is constantly throwing surveys at me, and there are quick links buried within text with certain words hot linked to other pop up ads - Magoo?, mario bros., etc. I just did a search on-line after asking how to remove it and was directed to the ExterminateIt site, where I did a free assesment and it showed a load of Adware, tracking cookies, etc., and even a Trojan. But now I have to pay for the upgraded version of it to remove all of the junk. I downloaded/paid for Avast 6 and was hoping it could take care of a lot of that, so that’s why I’m asking. Looking for some way to clean up the computer of all of this. Thanks again.
Malware Bytes Anti Malware (MBAM) : http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Welcome to the forum. ![]()
Thanks Bob3160! I’ve had Malwarebytes for some time but it failed on me awhile ago and I completely forgot about it. Re-downloaded it last night, and although it did find a ton of adware, spyware, and the like, I am still getting the “Play Pickle” pop up ads and quick links. I’ll keep searching, but thanks again for the suggestion on Malwarebytes.
You can try superantispyware http://www.superantispyware.com/
From what I’ve been able to check, the following site is safe and gives removal instuctions:
http://playpickle.com/deactivate/
Other free alternatives include McAfee Stinger (must be downloaded weekly to get the latest virus signatures) and Bid-Defender “Monthly” Top 100.
Both have found and removed Malware on my computers that AIS, SAS and Malwarebytes have missed.
They can be downloaded from these links

You must be extremely un-lucky or go looking for malware to infect your system.
I have never found SAS finds anything on my system only cookies that I want.
I never needed McAfee Stinger either.
Avast Boot Scan, and second opinion MBAM or SAS should remove any spyware or trojans, adware etc. you have on your PC…Although you didn’t mention the OS you are using or any other security programs you have on your PC…
But if you do find any malware, adware, etc. most of us would recommend using a Reg Cleaner to clear your PC of any leftovers and reg issues and settings that were changed by Mallware,TOOLBARS etc.
I know some people don’t believe in reg cleaners but most would agree on C Cleaner or Glary Utillities Or the Wise reg and Wise disc cleaner, just to mention a few non aggressive ones.
Again, just my suggestion.
