Sorry but that page is not believable or even professional, statements like below referring to running multiple browsers when supposed to be talking about anti-viruses :

Also comparing Malwarebytes against Defender, Malwarebytes isn’t even a Anti-virus :
Try looking up some AVComparatives reviews and similar professional companies who’ve actually done tests on detection and prevention of malware.

Avast is regularly rated by many competent testing organizations. Those results are trusted by the industry.

Well what about this professional sites review that state in the article possible privacy issues, and Avast collecting browser history. I manage My 2 Gaming systems and Mom’s system in the household here, and while she may not understand the privacy options, I certainly do myself, not sure how I feel 100 percent on it possibly collecting browser history and who knows what else from the systems
Years ago I switched from Windows Live One Care to Avast on January 1st 2006 after I was testing Windows Live OneCare a while/bought a 3 user copy, ended up with all household systems infected somehow then, then based on online friend recommendation choose to install Avast Free, but nowadays local tech friends don’t recommend Avast Free, and other online tech forums, so got me worried now
know this review is on older version of Avast Free, but still a bit concerned. If nothing to worry about, then will keep Avast installed on all household systems

Use a custom install and go through the privacy settings to customize the default settings.
(Default always allow the most amount of data sharing and this is probably true for 99.9% of all programs and apps installed.)
From what I’ve read and discussed when it comes to “data mining” there is no privacy.
If you’re on the internet your data (personal or otherwise) is out there and collectable regardless of settings.
“Privacy” is a non-issue, as there isn’t any.
So should i reinstall Avast, and disregard Local PC Shop techs advice that was just stick to Defender for protection when i had laptop in for a minor issue/dust cleanout a month ago
Wondering if Defender also can affect performance in games, in GTA V online, when i used it a bit on the laptop, didn’t get many kills during the shooting aspects, i have since moved that game over to the gaming Desktop and i do a little better than i did in the past
I tend to believe as well other forums that i visit at times to read computer news, and almost end up using Defender when i know it’s probably not the best antivirus.
Ultimately it’s your computer and your choice. We can’t do more than offer our opinions.
It’s up to you to either take them or not. You should also be guided by your past experience with Avast.
Patrick, there is no best anti-virus, all the top ones are always very close to each other in testing, find what works best on your computer. Defender has improved tremendously the past year or so, some say it affects performance , other say not, so I go back to find what works best for you. One thing with Defender is that you will get no pop-ups trying to up sell you products or no bloatware. A lot of them have free trials so you can test them on your rig, just be sure to uninstall them completely before trying anything else, a lot have uninstall tools.So whether it be Avast, Defender or something else its up to you to find your best solution.
Thank you @digmor crusher I’ll check out how performance is with a few trials, who knows at the end of the trials and full removals with the providers tools, i may end up determining Avast Free still meets all my needs for all the systems in the household. One system we do our online banking on so concerned a little on that, Gaming systems so far trying out Defender, whether protected enough remains to be seen, but Few scans, and Malwarebytes Full scan, nothing found at all on any system

Different strokes for different folks I suppose. I don’t run traditional AVs, or AM programs. But my solution to that is a whole lot more technical and in depth.
I have a Win 10 VM for day to day activities (YT, Email, Social Media, etc). CentOS, Win 7, KALI for testing purposes on their own VMs. Running that is the host system, which is exclusively used for playing games/streaming/recording (VMs don’t play well with graphics cards, unfortunately). Then there is a physically separate network running an AD network (upgraded laptop serving as the DC) with 4 desktops/laptops running under it (with varying levels of permissions).
So the risk to the host machine is (while not zero), far less then your average user. It’s the VMs that are “at risk”, and they have snapshots created on a bi-weekly basis.

For most users they need all of the help they can get from conventional sources. Doing what you do might be beyond their comfort zones.
I could probably get away with a similar setup as yours, but I have never been inclined to go down the VM route.
I do weekly drive image update and keep the last 6 generations (saved of the system) I also do multiple daily backups of volatile files (using a batch file and a tool called mirror.exe), documents, emails, images, downloads, bookmarks, etc.
Malware, isn’t the only thing that people have to prepare/plan for.
