avast wants my cc-number

hello

I got an offer today (apparently it’s already gone now because I refused entering the credit card number) for 60 days free testing of the pro version (or another one, not sure right now).

I entered my data (name, city and zip code) including my email address. here, the first oddness happened, I entered my name.surname@yahoo.de address, and the system asked “Meinten sie name.surname@yahoo.fr”. If I enter .de, I’m quite sure that I mean .de and not .fr or another TLD).

Then, the really weird thing happened. Avast asked for my credit card number. Does anyone here know how credit card fraud works most of the times? Here is a free version of out product, just enter your credit card number + security number, etc. And next month, the user finds out that his credit card was maxed out.
In other words, a secure behavior in dealing with credit cards: don’t enter it everywhere.

So, how can I get those 60 days testing (sounds nice) WITHOUT being forced to enter my credit card number. Because if you tell me, the product costs 0€, then you just don’t need it.

You as the producer of security software should know that.

In short, you can’t. But you still can use the 30 day trial.

You can download a 30 day trial version directly fro the avast website without having to provide any information at all.

avast is asking for the credit card details in case you don’t remove the trial before it expires or don’t buy a subscription and you keep using the paid version.
In that case you will have to pay for it.
