avast! Warning during a scan

Everytime I do a system scan, and avast finds a virus, it opens up the avast! Warning window, and pauses the scanner. The problem with that is, I usually scan my computer at night, or when I’m not using it, and unless I am sitting in front of it during a virus scan, it stays paused with the avast! Warning window open. Is there a way I can make it either not show the avast! Warning during a scan, or not to pause the scanner whenever the window opens?

These advanced automated options are only available in the Pro version.

What is your OS ?
What was the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?

The everytime comment concerns me, especially if it is the same filename and location. If you get so frequent infections to consider this option, would lead me to suggest you review your system security. Once your system is clean you should be rarely inconvenienced by on-demand scans catching something on a scan.

You are also probably doing a throught scan with archives to warrant doing it at night ?
Archive (zip, etc.) files are by their nature are inert, you need to extract the files and then you have to run them to be a threat. Long before that happens avast’s Standard Shield should have scanned them and before an executable is run that is scanned. Thorough is also by its design very thorough and perhaps a little overkill for routine use, were a Standard scan without archives should be adequate.

I have only ever done a through scan with archives once shortly after installation just to ensure a clean start state, but with XP for example avast will do a boot-time scan after installation if you select it, this I believe will be quicker and reasonably effective. Like everything in life things are a compromise.

As David said, only in Professional version (see picture here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=13315.msg112285#msg112285).

In Home version you can check the option “Don’t show this window again” as soon as the first virus warning appears, and click on “No action” button. This way, nothing will be done and you will be presented the results at the end (and you can perform actions from there).

Thanks for helping me. I uninstalled avast! and installed AVG on my computer. If they could make the Home edition not show this pop-up during a scan, then I’d continue using it, because I have nothing else against it, after all it’s better than AVG.

Then all you need to do is modify your use of avast as I said, I do a standard scan of local drives without archives once a week and it doesn’t take long 9 minutes in my case, so no need to run it unattended at night, even if I go and have a cup of tea or coffee and come back if it had detected something, a very, very rare occurrence, I respond to it and could tick the “Don’t show this window again” and “No action” as Tech mentioned, come back on completion of the scan and if there are any others in the list deal with them then.

There is absolutely no way I would quit avast for AVG for this when avast as you recognise is a far better AV in my opinion than AVG, which I left over two years ago and no way would I go back to that.
