Firefox released a new update today 5.0 of it’s browser and i’m just wondering what the ETA is that web rep will be Compatible with it because right now it’s not.
We know there are lots of other topics relating to the webrep not working in firefox 5.0.
- The fact that you can’t use the WebRep in firefox 5.0, doesn’t lessen the avast protection, you still have the Network Shield blocking known malicious sites and the Web Shield pre-scanning http content before it is displayed/run in your browser.
The WebRep is purely reputation based on avast user input. Later when the avast! virus labs start inputting information of detected malware, etc. into the webrep database, then it will be more of a security feature that just a reputational tool.
Now we’ll see tons of threads about WebRep again :
Sorry i did not mean to be a bug. : : : : : :o
Jimmy, sorry me, I was not talking about you personally.
Just that WebRep has the particular thing to attract tons of posts when something gets wrong.
Sorry for being a bit stupid here…
My firefox is telling me to update to version 5 and then web rep won’t work -
Should I update firefox or not?
Quite frankly the fact that WebRep does not work in Firefox 5 is pretty insignificant as DavidR said it does not lessen the Avast protection module. WebRep is simply a tool the Avast community uses to tell others whether a site is safe/unsafe etc. It’s such a minor issue i updated to Firefox 5 this morning and really do not care that WebRep currently does not work as it’s not a part of Avast i rely on.
You will gain much more of a security benefit from updating to Firefox 5 as oppsoed to keeping WebRep working.
You can try the new Beta: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=80315.msg658226#msg658226
