Avast Web Shield and CCleaner

Avast Free 2014.9.0.2011
CCleaner 4.08.4428
Windows 7 SP1 x86

Web Shield stops working with Pale Moon 24.2.2,Opera 12.16 and Opera Developer after running CCleaner.
It still works with Firefox 26.0 and IE11.
After reboot it works with all browsers until I use CCleaner again.I tried to turn off/on Web Shield, but it didn’t work.
Only after reboot Web Shield is working with all browsers.

Can anyone reproduce this ?
I did Avast repair, but it is still the same thing.
I also unchecked Avast in CCleaner.
Probably CCleaner is cleaning some file or folder important for Web Shield.
If I know which file or folder it is, I could exclude it from cleaning.

Don’t have issue here but using Chrome.

It looks like all major browsers (IE,Chrome,Firefox) are unaffected.

@ OP Is Pale Moon listed in the applications tab in CCleaner? ???

@Para-Noid
No,it is not listed in applications tab,but it is supported by CCleaner.
CCleaner “thinks” it is Firefox browser.

Yes, confirmation here from the Pale Moon forum.

http://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3258

Pale Moon is supported “natively” in CCleaner (without CCEnhancer). See other supported browsers:
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/features
Opera Developer is not supported by CCleaner and Web Shield is also not working with Opera Dev. after
running CCleaner,so it must be some Windows temp file or something that is “cleaned” by CCleaner.

I really regret updating to 2014.9.0.2011 version.
CCleaner is probably deleting some Avast temp file or folder.
You should hide or move or rename that file or folder.
Developers,please fix this.

Nothing is changed with latest CCleaner 4.09.4471.

Developers, are you able to reproduce this problem ?

Do you honestly believe that renaming or moving that folder would make a blind bit of difference, I don’t. CCleaner in short order would just find the new name and you are back in the same boat.

I don’t let ccleaner do anything to avast.

You are not helping.
If you have mentioned browsers installed try to reproduce this problem.
Everything is explained in previous posts.

+1

Again we can see great “help” from Evangelists.
If you don’t have Pale Moon,Opera Presto or Opera Blink installed please ignore this topic.

The problem being the topic title mentions nothing about Pale Moon, if that is the issue with ccleaner. I find hard to understand why this ccleaner interaction would be limited to Pale Moon and Opera and not other browsers as well.

That said why would you have ccleaner clean avast files, have you tried actually unchecking those options in ccleaner and see if those browsers have a problem.

The only web shield related file in the avast folder is the Webshlock.txt this is the Web Shield Lock txt file in use for files locked whilst they are in the temp folder and being scanned.

Please,check first post again.
I found temporary fix.
In CCleaner under System I unchecked Temporary Files and Web Shield is working with Pale Moon,Opera Presto and Opera Dev. again.
With this version of Avast a new file important for Web Shield is introduced and when it is deleted by CCleaner or probably other cleaners,
it is not recreated until reboot.
Don’t know why Firefox and IE11 are not affected.
I don’t use Chrome, but it looks like it is also not affected.
Developers,please fix this.

Except this problem with CCleaner and “alternative” browsers,Web Shield is working great.
Browsing is faster.Windows Firewall outbound rules are working. Also, unlike before Web Shield is working
with SafeIP (proxy).

Hi guys, this is caused by the fact that ccleaner deletes the temp folder (avast) with which avast is operating.

We made changes again to prevent this by locking a file webshlock.txt on the temp folder. This change is included with the latest webshield patch distributed by emergency update.

What emergency update?. I haven’t seen anything to suggest it has happened here. I am running 2014.9.0.2011. How can I tell whether that fix has been applied here?

Please don’t tell me I’m going to have to do a complete uninstall/reinstall again. From memory I’ve done that twice already with this version.
