Avast Webrep and Firefox

Webrep doesn’t show site ratings on my search results on Firefox. But it worked fine on the initial version 8 release until I updated to 8.0.1483. I have it enabled because the Webrep icon on my toolbar lights up. It only happens to Firefox because it works fine on Chrome and IE. Also, Firefox no longer appears on my Software Update list. It used to be there coz I remember using it to update Firefox. Any clues?

Well it still works on searches for me latest avast 8 and FF 19.0.2, see image of a Yahoo search. It also works on Google searches for me.

I finally got it to work. But it’s kinda on and off. My next problem now is Firefox missing in the Update Software list. It used to be there before I updated to the latest version 8.0.1438.

Yes it used to be there, I don’t know why it isn’t right now, but I dare say it will be back in due course.

Still got some bugs on this new version. Luckily I wasn’t one of those who had Zone Alarm on my laptop coz I’m running XP SP3. Hopefully they fix it soon.

@David, what does that green circle next to the Avast webrep symbol signify out of interest?

@DavidR I think I figured out why it doesn’t work sometimes. Webrep doesn’t work on a repeated search. Like if I search the term “Avast” twice consecutively, the second one will show up with no site rating. But if I search a new term the site rating shows up again. I had to wait a while before I tried “Avast” again before it came back on it. Must have something to the with the browser’s cache?

It is WOT.

Weird, I don’t know if this is to save on overhead as it would have to access the webrep database for the sites returned in the search. But I would have to say who under normal circumstances does the same search twice in very short succession.

That’s a good point. They must’ve thought the same thing or they overlooked someone might search the same word twice. Either way, I find it as a flaw.

I have also noticed that when you rate a website in Firefox then you open a new tab/window it will show the rating you gave the previous website as opposed to the rating of the new website you have opened.

I am beginning to think webrep is a bit of a waste of time as WOT does the same job if not better because users can also leave comments about the website.

For google chrome, webrep shows beside each search result even if the item is re-searched.
For firefox (v19.0.2), webrep is not showing beside each search result after re-search.

I believe it is a bug to be ironed out in firefox.
